This guy might be a genious, I don't know, but this clip didn't show it. Meaning no disrespect!

Yeah, Dave Overthrow was rockin'!

I believe the term "genius" has been tossed around pretty lightly in the last 20 years or so. I don't know what this guy's credentials are, but watch some Bootsy Collins or Larry Graham next to that and the "Bass Genius" looks pretty foolish.

well, he shows discipline

thats one of the first slap bass solos I've heard where the player doesn't play 200bpm--i actually hear more groove in what that guy was playing compared to the random guitar store bassist(/flea)

granted i still wouldn't consider that a genious show of ability.

What should a bass genius be playing?

It's probably from an instructional video. It's probably for beginner slap techniques.

it was decent. since it did say it was for instructional purposes, i would assume he was playing stuff that others could learn. he could probably play circles around many if he wasn't teaching.

btw, why are people spelling genius with an o?

He's showing slaps and pops at slow speed - something that newer players don't often get to see.

Yeah, he's got the whitest groove ever, but he's not trying to play in the pocket. He's trying to show the techniques.

That's funny. It reminded me that our singer's ex-girlfriend used to say that my own "bass face" resembled someone who just took a bite of too-hot mashed potatoes and I was trying to cool them off without spitting them out.

I now wear a mask on stage...
