For me, it is Stanley Clarke. When I was fourteen, I saw him on the cover of GuitarPlayer, and I first heard of Alembic. From 1975-1988, I bought every release of his except for maybe two. Over time, however, I realized that I was not really into piccolo bass or alot of lead bass playing. I came to understand that although I idolized Stanley Clarke, I played more like Bernard Edwards, Mark Adams (Slave), or even Geddy Lee than Stanley Clarke. In real terms, by 1980, Marcus Miller, Bernard Edwards, and Anthony Jackson, had become my biggest influences, it just took me along time to get out of the habit of buying Stanley Clarke recordings.

Except for Mike Watt and John Doe, I still listen to the Minutemen, X, and The Knitters a lot.

Old Jamiroquai (Zender), Chic (Bernard Edwards), Masters at Work (Gene Perez), Incognito (Randy Hope-Taylor), and Brand New Heavies (Andrew Levy). Btw, I rarely listen to any of the newer stuff of the ones that are still going, although I do like BNH's latest. The only one I don't listen to as much is Marcus Miller.

Scott | +1
I lost interest after Signals except for a couple songs here or there. I still like to pull out the lick to Circumstances at soundchecks sometimes.

Influence-Les Claypool
Love all the Primus stuff and some of solo work, but the music that he has created lately just isn't as creative as he was. |

Prog is almost like hair metal to me these days. I almost can't believe I listened to it as much as I did. |

It's, to me, still their best album, though I have to admit to actually liking much of the album they did with Dave Navarro, which probably puts me in a company of ten other people.
