I doubt that Marcus, Vic, or Steve have time to run their own myspace page and respond to every letter that is sent to them. Most "big" names have management for that type of stuff. There is always the exception though, so who knows.
But on your topic, I've had the pleasure of meeting Vic, Marcus and Stanley Clarke when I went to the Thunder Tour last year in Vegas. Got to talk to each one individually for a while and I gotta say that Vic is one of the most humble people I have ever met. Marcus and Stanley were class acts as well, great guys!!

Meanwhile, around five guys (including me) are standing around him wondering whether we should go home and practice or quit playing altogether. |

I've had an e-mail exchange with Patitucci as well.

He was sitting down on stage warming up beforehand and I went up to him because he was playing the Peanuts theme 2-handed style and it was just completely awesome!
He actually sat there and explained and demonstrated to me in detail how to play it. At the time I didn't even know who he was! Coolest guy ever!

One lesson I had to take public tranportation to. After the lesson (GV's last of the day) he saw me at the bus stop. He pulled over and gave me a ride to the station. This took about two hours off my hellish journey. Gerald and I talked for a good forty minutes on many subjects. At camp he also sat down and had dinner with me. What a humble and sincere person. I'll never forget how cool he is. |

I should get the chance to meet him in the Fall as I won a raffle for a spot in his Bass/Nature Camp. As a Bass/Nature enthusiast you couldn't pick a better thing for me to win. |

The first time they played here I introduced myself and we began talking about Bc Rich basses, I was missing a piece from my bridge off my Beast, and he gave me one off his Virgo bass he wasn't using. A year and a half latter when they played here again, I said hi to him not expecting him to remember me and the first thing he said was " Did that piece fit on your Beast." Ended up spending most of the night backstage with him and Guy (guitar player) drinking. Sercuity tried to through me out cause I went back stage, and the guys from Suffoction yelled he's with us leave him alone. Really nice guys. Went out with them after and drank some more.

Been friends with these guys for years. Hang out with them every time they come through Winnipeg.
Met Alex Webster once talked to him about fishing and how much he likes Canada. That was back in the late 90's. Angelcorpse opened for them.
I know these guys are not Victor Wooten or anything like that, but they are still some great bass players.
He is not a bass player but I had coffee with Bruce Campbell once. That was awsome.

Here's a pair of photos of us from the last day of camp. In the first pic (which I didn't realize was being taken) I'm explaining to him how I wanted a picture of him looking at me as if amazed and awed; I thought that would be a fun pic to show off to my friends back home. The second pic is the one I was prepping him for, and as you can see he jumped into his role with enthusiasm. |

In between sets he was trying to talk Alex into letting him play but he would not hear of it. He was a real mensch, shifted to a slower gear when some of his jokes went over my head.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Central Illinois, USA | | | I used to manage a guitar store so I went to NAMM a lot. I have talked to:
Michael Rhodes- nice guy who was genuinely interested in my thoughts on his work with Rodney Crowell and Roseanne Cash. We were at the Guild booth discussing the brand new Guild/Hartke aluminum coned speakers.
Billy Shehan- even had his autograph. We laughed about the dork who was talking to him earlier- the dork said "I'm your biggest fan, I have every record you made, you're the greatest", but Billy and I had just heard Mr. Dork say the exact same thing to John Entwistle. At a Yamaha booth, the autorgraph went on a huge poster of him with the BB bass (about a year before the Attitude came out). My students were suitably impressed.
John Entwistle- kinda reserved, but I had his autograph on my business card for years. It was on my bulletin board with an old Who "Maximum RB" button. I wish I knew where those are now...
Freebo- He was very nice, even though he was in a hurry, and seemed to be touched that someone would notice him, and thank him for teaching me to play bass.
Ray Brown- At a Polytone display, Ray Brown, Joe Pass, and George Van Eps were jamming. Mel Bay (yep, Mr. Mel Bay) introduced me to those three gentlemen. I was more in awe of those guys than anyone I've "met" at NAMM.
Carol Kaye- when she was endorsing Leo Fender's Music Man. She was playing "Feelin' Alright" on a natural finished StingRay through an HD-130 and a 212RH. We chatted for a few minutes then she saw Leo and went into the sales pitch.
Jeff Berlin- much funnier and less abrasive in person than his written words communicate. Frist time I was walking past the Leo Quann booth and heard this guy playing some wicked bebop, sounding all fretless when I realized the bass had frets. I stopped, turned around and he kept playing this Charlie Parker-ish stuff while chatting with a stunningly beautiful woman. This was when most people hadn't a clue who he was- maybe even before "Gradually Going Tornado". Years later at a Dean sponsored seminar he gave locally, I asked about his stand on fretless players, specifically naming Freebo, Jack Bruce, and Rick Danko. Interesting, but I still think he's wrong on the metronome thing.
And a bunch of local players no one's ever heard of.... but I learned a lot from Mike White, Curt Bley, Mike Hill, Jack Sampson, Randy Ammerman, Tom Patterson, Bubba, and Roger Vail Stevenson.
