What do you guys think of my bass playing?

Sign in to disble this ad
CHECK MY BAND'S MUSIC INSTEAD OF WHAT I RECORDED, IT WAS RUSHED AND POINTLESS, PLEASE GO TO WWW.MYSPACE.COM/THEBANDECLYPSE AND TELL ME WHAT YA THINK

Yeah I know, I'm very new here and I hate to be the "narcissistic noob" but ever since I was ten (15 now, 16 in a month) I've loved bass and when I turned 13 this really evolved, and I figured out I want to play music as a profession if possible... so my simple question to you guys/girls is do you think I can 'make' it?

I'm in this rap/rock band called The Band Eclypse that I love to death, and we've won the apollo amateur night twice, and its only going up from there, our fanbase and songs are improving the further we go... so I want you guys to tell me if you think this 30 second clip of me playing bass I upload shows enough talent to be considered a "full-time bass player"

I know I'm only 15 and I have time, blah blah blah, but I want to know now if I'm good enough... my dad who has been playing for 20 years says I'm better than him, but sometimes i think he's just saying that. But he sincerely says too me that I'm better than most bassists his band opened for... and they got some play on MTV so that means a lot...

now dont be tooo harsh with this clip, its just a short clip of what I do, its not my BEST ever because its only my acoustic, and I literally set it up and recorded it in TWO minutes...

so how it starts out is me playing a Rancid bass line, then the chorus too "Resistance" by Muse, then just a improvision and I end it with harmonics...

TL;DR tell me if I suck or not.

FINALLY, sorry if I posted in the wrong section, once again, I'm new here.

A+ for effort and NO you don't suck.....
But, you should find a good teacher ASAP if you really love the bass guitar. Do it now, while you're young.

I think you need some more practice, and if you want people to judge your bass playing, posting a short, hurried clip of what you did is not the best way for people to accurately judge how good/bad you are.

Sounds like you have some potential, but based on that clip, I wouldn't hire you as a full time bassist.

I would agree with that, the part about the best way for people to accurately hear me

go to myspace.com/thebandeclypse if you wanna hear my original stuff that was NOT rushed in two minutes lol...

I just want to point something out to you, because you're young, and you probably don't recognize this yet.

What you put up for people to judge is how well you can play. If you don't want people to judge you on a hurriedly recorded bit of tinkering and improv, then don't post a hurriedly recorded bit of tinkering and improv, because unless you're Will Lee or some one of his caliber, it most likely won't sound good.

If you want some one to accurately judge your potential as a bass player, post recordings of your band, or examples of your songs, and take the time to do it right. Don't chop everything up and repeat the best phrases you recorded (read: be human) and let people judge you based on how well you can phrase things and other stuff like that.

I'm not trying to tear into you here or anything, so don't read it that way, cause I think, like I said, that you have potential, but you need a lot more practice before you could consider being anything more than a part time bassist at this point. You also might want to consider another teacher. If I had fret buzz like that after 4 years with the same teacher, there is a problem.

Yeah i just listened to it again, and i heard the fret buzz and it just made me cringe lol, idk your right it was a stupid move to put that rushed **** up there it was improvised and i was trying to climb up and down the neck like a mad man, but now I'm realizing that doesn't prove anything... and in my last post I linked you to my band if you want to check it out.

Honestly, the first song is horrible all around. The other songs show your playing is much better! Just beware of your timing and listen to the drummer and keep locking in with him. Nice playing.

Edit: Wait, song #3 is NOT you?

For one, groove. I don't feel a sense of groove or solid timing. I didn't like the line either. Second, in some areas, the root note is off. It just sounds like you were 'winging' it on that one.

The second song (Glory Road) seemed a lot better. I actually like that one. Still some minor timing issues which will come in time. Many young players don't have that 'locked in' sense of groove. It'll come in time. That tune has potential!

you mean the second song Down Under? yeah that recording got ****ed, we re-recorded it, and let me tell you it's crack... we have all these new songs and in my opinion my new lines kick these old ones asses especially the revamped "Down Under". It's just that bass is my passion and lately I've been doubting myself as a bassist.
