Just altogether interested in what other bass players think of Him.
I really think he's done some amazing stuff with the instruments,
one of the most creative bass players ever. |

I enjoy Justin Chancellor's playing and his distinctive bass sound. He has excellent taste in terms of knowing when to play counter-melodies or harmonies versus following the guitar. |

At least I hope so. | He has his fans here, too. Apparently, some of them are his grandpa's age (I'm not joking, btw: there have been such threads)
Here at TB we are a varied bunch. AFA Justin Chancellor is concerned, more than anything, I'm impressed by his tone, esp. on more spacey stuff like Disposition. And he better have that good a tone considering his rig and (the price of) the bass he uses.

If I woke up tomorrow with his tone, though, I'd probably cry. |

i personally love his tone and love the fact that he actually cuts through which most bass players of the "same" genre (i mean alt. metal by that not prog. metal) fail to do for the most part.

It's not very distinct in the mix but is more like an overwhelming mass of sound. sure there are parts of songs where he cuts through but during those bits it sounds thin (to me). In no way do I mean this as bashing him or his tone because I think the band is incredible and it's definitely all the components that make it so. One of the thoughts I had during the show was that so much of TOOL is about what is what the eye (ears?) can't see or beyond this world and his tone is indicative of that to me - an overpowering force that is there but not there. |

Its a massive monster lurking behind/ and in front of the guitars.
The perfect complement to Danny Carey's playing.

Usually in multiply duplicated threads asking what effects were used in this song or that song. He's right up there with Chris Wolstenholme, Timmy Commerford, Flea, and all the rest in terms of frequently asked pedal suggestions.
As far as I am concerned, I like Tool's works. I like Justin's tone that he can get. I just have no want to copy his tone for myself. |

I love the way his bass sounds (both on record and live), but its not what I go for. |

I like him, I wouldn't like to copy him. |
