| | | | small minded people will always bash people or things they dont like to make themselves feel better. apparently it makes them feel even better to do it if the person they are bashing is more successful than they will ever be. i just ignore them and let them wallow in their own pathetic existence. |

Who cares if it's "harmless fun", it's just ignorant. Can you imagine being a new user showing up here and seeing all these bashing threads? Show's what a crew this is sometimes.

Fortunately those with a brain will avoid those threads as pollution.
Hard to believe those threads did not get a lock. Bashing = TOS violation right? |

When it's Gene, no one really took notice. When it's someone else...

Hard to believe those threads did not get a lock. Bashing = TOS violation right? | Exactly the point!

I always thought of this as such a supportive place that didn't haven any of the nastiness typically found in internet forums etc. Always thought we were WAY more civil and normal than your average internet forum. These threads are rapidly proving me wrong.

When it's Gene, no one really took notice. When it's someone else... | I plead guilty to this in the Gene bashing forum and have resolved to not do it again at all, ever.
If I can't say anything nice, I'm not going to post. I'm doing this for the very reason mentioned by the OP, though I did come to this conclusion on my own.
I apologise to the the TB community for any past posts that may have offended. This is a legit, non-sarcastic statement. We're all bass players here and that should unite us, not divide us. |

I stopped by the Gene bashing thread. He's a big, easy target for sure, but I tried to balance my comments with some praise for his songwriting skills and how his bass playing actually props up a band featuring two sub-par guitarists.
But too many people just see those threads as an opportunity to fling poop.

And I too thought bashing was against TOS, but I must be wrong.

| | ~ | | | | | I let it be known that I didn't think the Gene bashing thread should be allowed. I was pretty aggressive in there trying to defend him because I don't think anyone should be bashing another bassist. I don't think countering with bashing threads against another bassist helps things either. So I'm not joining the bashing of Jaco, Harris or whomever else is a target either. Besides, I like them too.

I'd hate to see TB go the way of YouTube, where they might as well delete the comments function because of the amount of trash that pollutes it.
Aside from the obvious issue with bashing threads, I've noticed a particularly high level of incivility (is that even a word?) in the luthier's forum... |

Thinly veiled threads of bashing are just as bad as openly bashing ones, and creating whole threads for the sake of stirring up crap is more like what OTHER forums do. Not what I've come to feel Talkbass is about.
I'm sure those "other" forums didn't start out with the idea of being horrible, they were allowed to become horrible.

Time to take the high road TB.
GROW UP.
