| | | | I'm primarily a guitarist who plays bass the way I would like it to sound when I am on guitar. Influenced primarily by Jack Casady, Verdine White and Larry Graham, but nowhere near as good as any of them. |

I also try to be an ultra reliable team player and show up plenty early with good gear that is in perfect working order with spare strings, batteries, fuses, cables, tools, etc. On a personal level, I try to be a good hang and above all ... NO DRAMA ... I'm just there to have a good time, be professional and put my best foot forward. |

| | | | When it comes to basses, I dislike treble, slap, and anything "bitey" in the sound. This defines my style because I like even volume and tone across the strings but also like definition and separation of notes so I also don't do the thumpy P bass tone on its own. Added a Jazz pup to my P to give it more clarity and separation without the treble.
My style is a hybrid of Bruce/Fraser/Entwistle which is interesting to me as I have never played a WHO song in any band before and only ever learned one of them for home practice. Also very self demanding, must be at pro level, or I keep practicing as speed and fluidity when playing runs is very important to my sound.
Think recording level, in determining whether finger technique and tone is where I want to be. The I just go on stage and have fun. Gets too serious off stage some times. |

But I also like Funk, and slap, and I'm spending some time learning those. I've tried playing with a pick, but I prefer the more organic feel of using my fingers.

| | | | Horrendous.
What I would like to be is a counterpoint player to the guitar or keyboard, and comfortable with both fingerstyle and pick. I'd also love to be the bassist who helps support the band in other ways, either with some keyboards or singing.
So, a cross between Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, and JPJ, with some Cliff Burton bombast in there for good measure. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
