What made you choose guitar over bass?

For those of you that have played both bass and guitar, but predominantly play bass, I want to know why you chose bass over guitar.

For me, I always loved how the bass carried the song. I liked the simplicity that allowed me to play along to my favorite songs. I like the option of playing with my fingers, although I do use a pick. I like the rumble of the low end, and I LOVE all my crazy dance moves I do when playing bass.

Oh and lastly, I thought playing bass was a more realistic goal than playing lead guitar. It isn't much easier I've learned.

Edit: I just realized I screwed up the title...I got "bass" and "guitar" backwards.
Ughhhhhhhnn

Because a big instrument is a euphanism for something else ;)

It's definitely a guy thing. You just hang that thing ass low as you can and laugh at your guitarist's newfound insecurity :D

I was a drummer first and picked up guitar on the side but hated it because it didn't have the band power that drums do, then bass, I realized is the best of both worlds.

More fun to play.

I always liked the sound more

It just seemed to fit me. Like I was meant to play it. Sometimes I can play guitar for hours. Sometimes I can ignore it for months. Not so with bass.

It just made sense the moment I tried it where guitar never did for me.

An older friend told me, "Drummers are a dime a dozen and guitarists slightly more, but a good bass player or keyboard player can always work." Tried keyboards and couldn't hang, but while I still continue to play guitar, bass is my main instrument and has been since I got one.

I'm not a very good lead guitarist (although that's improved massively since I started playing bass).

I like being more important than people think I am.

I didn't have much choice. My brother was six years older than me. He came home with a bass one day. He told me that I was now in his band and I needed to learn how to play it. I knew it was either that or get thumped on a daily basis until they found a bass player. 30 years later, I'm still playing. I wish I could say the same for him and the guitar.
