Thumbs up What is your favorite Percy Jones tune?

Sign in to disble this ad
Tell us what tune you loved Percy Jones playing on. It doesn't have to be written by Percy, just one he played on.

My favorite happens to be one he wrote.
Noddy Goes To Sweden from the Do They Hurt Brand X recording.
Hey any tune that can grove in 10 is tops in my book.

How about you? Tell us your favorite.

Sky Saw on Eno's Another Green World. Inspired me then and inspires me now.

what he said, I spent a lot of time with that one.

I also loved his sliding double stop harmonics on "Malaga Virgin".

Malaga virgin is great. Really like "Not Good Enough - See Me!" off of Product. Percy's great and Mike Clarke kills on that tune.

Saw Tunnels 6 years ago about a week after I started playing bass. Needless to say I was blown away. I could barely play a scale and heres Percy just doing things I couldn't even imagine. Plus my guitar player friend got hammered with John Goodsall one of his personl guitar heros.

I was gonna say either that or "Energy Fools The Magician" on Before And After Science. Seems like Eno really knew how to highlight the (for lack of a better word) non-wanky aspects of Percy's playing.

Yeah his work with Eno is my favorite of his playing. Somehow Eno gave him a freedom that really brought out his best.

I think Percy played on "Don't Make Waves" from the Brand X cd, "Product." That song is very pop with Phil Collins on vocals, but there are some nice fretless licks that give that song life, IMO. Either Percy or John Giblin, it was great!

The best line in that song is "don't you cause any hassles, don't you play like an *******, if you want to be safe don't make waves"

Other then "and the band was always high man"

I think it was Giblin on that track if I'm not mistaken. I also loved them playing on Wal to Wal.

Jim Matus played with Percy in the early 80's in a band called The Quality Trio. I seen them play on Long Island in a club that was called My Father's Place.

I remember My Father's Place, though I never got out there, I remember the ads on WNEW FM.
