on tour with his best band yet, the Fancy Band, which is:

Les doing what he does best
Skerik on sax
Mike Dillon on vibes & perc
Paulo Baldi on drums
Gabby LaLa on sitar & theramin

and NO GUITARS!!!

also grab a copy of his latest cd "Of Whales and Woes", it's excellent!

When I saw Les in Boston a month or so ago, Gabby was also playing Ukulele.

I've seen him twice with this band and the set lists pull songs from Les' first solo album, the Frogs, and his new CD.

Definately check out "Of Whales and Woe"
Rumble of the Diesel and One Better are a couple of my fave tracks off that album.

I heard he was on tour, giving uninspired performances. If ever there was a man who lost his thunder 15 years ago it's Les CLaypool!

I guess he composed the main theme music for robot chicken too. IIRC, it's nothing too special.

Mmm, yes. Please come in and insult the OP's favorite musician, I'm sure that'll win you some points. Ain't it great to be incendiary without anything to back up your assertions?

Yeah, he's one of my favorites too, and if you've heard him recently, you're gonna love the way he sounds. He's touring with his Fancy Band, I'm gonna try and see him in LA on Friday if I can make it.

How was the attendance?

... Any chance I'll be able to meet one of my heroes?

it was pretty packed, but I think the tour busses took off pretty quick after the show was over.

If the downward spiral in quality of the material he has released over the years has continued I'd hate the hear him live these days. Several weak Primus records, plenty of naff solo efforts and the Hallucinogenics dvd...a great shame.

I think the glory days have passed on Claypool, which is a shame, back in the day he was moderately interesting!

He's been touring his balls off, but I wish he'd get back in the studio, a new Oysterhead album would whail ass. That's my favorite side-project of his, his fancy band and Frog Brigade didn't do much for me, it seems he's trying to incorporate non-convential instruments for the sake of saying he's used them. His playing is still great though. But don't get me started on Gabby La La...

there was a huge attendance and also a HUGE crowd waiting for him after the show. they made everyone line up and you didnt really get to talk to him. just a few words a signature and maybe a picture. i dont blame him, the crowd line was never-ending and just played a long set.

in the end, i got to meet him, he signed my ticket, and i got a picture with him

I wouldn't hold my breath, it'd be great, but it seems Les is trying to forge ahead with different projects and Primus had to take a backseat.

I saw them about a year ago and he had the same band lineup. Parts of the show were great and other times it seemed just like a lot of boring noodling. Still worth seeing but I sure wish he'd play more straight ahead heavy priums type tunes then repetitive jamband stuff, but whatever, its his choice.

Met him afterwards too and got my ticket singed

I don't have any problem with Claypool being his favourite bassist, there are many far worse players around...and so...?

Well, peup. I was hoping I might be able to have him sign my bass.

Ah, well. Looks like I won't even be able to make it without a car...
