When Cliff was younger, he severed some kind of tendon in his pinky, and after that it woudn't bend.

That's kind of cool I never noticed that about Burton! I have almost the exact same thing wrong with my right (picking) hand too. I broke it a few years back & after it healed incorrectly it always sticks out when I play fingerstyle which I almost always do. Whenever I see myself play on video or in pictures, it somehow always made me kind of think of the goofy etiquette thing of how "proper" people are supposed stick their little finger out while sipping their tea.

Wow I thought it was just a habit. My pinky always sticks way out like that.

You have to believe that, wherever he is, he's still flashin' 'em.

Ditto.. and the faster/harder I play the more it sticks out. Pretty ironic if you have a dirty mind, eh?

Is that so weird? I have My pinky out all the time to, i didnt notice that my self before the guitarists started laughing and "winking" their little fingers at me...

and one thing about Burtons Right hand, i looked at some videos at YouTube, and his right hand looked like that of people who have never played bass before...(guitarist in my band when he tries to play for instance...)

He really developed his own technique and style so thats what must have felt comfortable with him. RIP Cliff.

Robbie Merrill (Godsmack) doesn't have use of his middle finger for the same reason.

He plays with his first and third fingers instead.
