back in the 70s, guitards of all playing levels would go to guitar stores and play stairway to heaven.

I don't really think there are too many bass equivalents to the guitar "stairway to heaven" phenom.

I think the most ubiquetous example would be that part from... what was the name of the song... "inaudible slap wankery"...

Wish I could do that.

Talking

I don't know if there is a bass equivalent song.

Most people I hear at any bass shop, be it GC, SA or mom and pop, all just wank.

Especially the people that you can tell can actually play bass. They seem to be the worst wankers. It's as if they've built up all this angst from having to play 'normal' in their band or gig and TOTALLY COMBUST at the bass shop by slapping, popping, tapping, playing all kinds of chords, solos, fanning, shred scales or flurry of notes, etc. As if they've broken the chains of tasteful playing that they are bound to in a band setting and feel the need to liberate themselves!

Friend of mine who is a fkn AWESOME bass player of any genre does this! I always bust his chops when he does and tell him to play as if he were on the gig, not filming a YouTube video!

The people that you can tell are new to bass or just learning, play "Sweet Child O Mine" or RHCP.

BTW, I have no problem with any of the above, I'm just saying I don't think there is a specific "must play song" that people always play on bass at the shops.
