What's your "Bass of Doom?"
After playing for 35 years, and doing multiple recent fretless builds, it occurred to me, I have one virtually perfect fretless; A fender alder body P-Bass with a USACG thicker-than usual lined Indian Rosewood board, and a Fralin P-bass PuP. Tomorrow, I'll pick it up with the new 5% overwound Fralin J in the 60s position. I hope this PuP lives up to what the P does...Nothing really explains in total, why this fretless is more alive and stable and playable.
But when I really rip on it, I become a more expressive player. I almost become wild with it, with techniques and melodies I never attempt on other axes.
Have you got one of those, and what is it?
my AV62RI Jazz makes me play so wet & greasy that it's scarey! i got it brand new in Dec. 09. i immediately sanded the finish off the neck and later added Fender CS60's pups. i play it so often the finish is worn to wood on the bottom of the body! the icing on the cake is the Dunlop SS strings. (i literally sound MUCH better than i really am):bassist:
E-Series MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special. Black body, clear glossy neck finish. Just feels right...
