Check out the chromatic Funk on albums like We Want Miles & Miles! Miles! Miles!
I also like the angular-Funk he did with The Breckers... Straphanging is nasty!
A bit later, there was some tasteful stuff he did with Spyro Gyra (the City Kids & Incognito albums).

Time-Lenny White's Streamline record- I believe it's the first record with MM. Classic record!
Run for cover.
I have to pull some of this stuff back out! |

The fact that he truly loves and understands pop music is what makes his music so accessible compared to other bass virtuosos.

| | | | Every track on Tom Scott's "Apple Juice" record. All the NYC cats just groovin'... What a gas!
I had the vinyl back in the day, but that is long gone. I found an import CD a few years ago; highly recommended.

Various albums with Miles, Tom Scott, David Sanborn, Spyro Gyra, GRP All-Stars, etc.
IIRC, he was real close to joining Weather Report at this time.
BTW, check out those two early solo album covers. 'Nuff said.

Mike | I still have that on vinyl...I'm not ready to plunk down $30+ for the import cd, though ('cause every time I do, the domestic version pops out for $8.99 the following week).
That said, I still prefer Tom Scott's New York Connection...no Marcus, though.
PUNCHIN' IN-
I just re-visited some samples from Apple Juice...always nice to hear Richard Tee!
I just bought the cd to Ralph McDonald's The Sound Of Drum...hearing Richard Tee on that also brought a smile.

His first solo album is great. Beautiful compositions, wonderful melodies, amazing bass lines and arrangements, he plays his fingers off, it's a very well engineered album and he also sings a whole lot!
R&B, Pop, Fusion, Jazz, who cares? I like music. |

| | | | It's cool...I recall that album & its follow-up not floating my boat.
Like you said, "...it's a very well engineered album". At that time, I was not too keen on glossy production items.
It's been awhile, though.
