when famous bassists first started

the bassist of the stereophonics had a humorous entrance into the band, richard jones. (its where i got the name from )

kelly got a guitar and stuart had a set of drums so they decided to form a band. they asked richard to be the bassist so he went out and bought one, and when he turned up he held the bass and the others said 'wow hes cool. he is the bassist!'. then they realised he couldnt even play it. when he played along with the band he whacked all four strings. rather funny i think, but it goes to show we all gotta start somewhere. even if it means strumming all four strings

anyone else know of early stories how bassists first started out?

Jah Wobble..... wasn't invited to join the Sex Pistols because his childhood friends Vicious and Rotten thought he was too much of a thug at the time, but Rotten then recruited him into PiL... and a couple years later he set their drummer (Karl Burns, formerly of the Fall) on fire.

Dude went from non-player to bass cult hero in about the span of PiL's first record.
