| I'd started teaching myself piano at 13 and kept up with it all the way through highschool. It wasn't until a couple of years after highschool that I started teaching myself guitar because it was a portable form of music. Got right into it, and never considered bass until a friend wanted to start a band and wanted a bassplayer. I got a terrible Jazz knockoff and tried to get my head around Talking Heads records and punk standards and old electric blues songs. The turning point was a jam after we'd exhausted our minimal setlist, a terrible garage-band mess, but it was just FUN. Something went click. That began it all.
