Good player, I just don't want to hear his voice or watch his playing faces.

It does absolutely nothing to alleviate my dislike for the music of John Mayer. But who cares, there are things that I love that other people can't stand. It would be a boring world if everyone enjoyed the same stuff.

I was on a BIG Mayer kick for a while. Couldn't get enough. That whole DVD is great. The Pino cam is one of the special features. It's only on that song, though. Great music! I would have never put the LaBella's on my P, if I hadn't watched this and loved Pino's tone.

Love Pino - not a JM fan. I may be too old but I find him too derivative.

Does he give any credit to Hendrix's "Power of Soul" on this or does he sell this as an original song?

Yeah that Hendrix guy is really obscure undeground stuff.

When people say they hate John Mayer I tell them...

But he's one heck of a musician and his trio is fantastic!

People hate JM because of all the tabloid junk for the most part. If you put all that aside and listen to what he's doing these days, he is one of the few in the modern pop scene doing anything remotely 'organic'. He may seem 'derivative' to the hardcore old-school or anti-pop crowd, but I'll listen to John any day over half the overproduced, computer-programmed crap that passes for music nowadays. The fact that he works with Steve, Pino, etc. etc. and that they sing his praises shows there's more there than some are willing to admit. Plus, 'Continuum' is a downright brilliant album. People seemed to hate 'Battle Studies' for some reason, but I think it's great in its own way.

well, P bass obviously, but i asked because there's a couple points earlier in the clip where the light reflects off the fretboard, and when that happens, the frets look non-existent.

There was a review or a profile written somewhere recently where someone asked about the P-Bass that Pino is playing. It mentioned that the frets were very small and VERY worn down, perhaps crowned/filed that way on purpose. At any rate, it could appear that it is fretless due to she size/crowning of the frets, but it is indeed fretted. I'll try to dig up that article if I can...

I find myself WANTING to hate this guy because he dates supermodels, he's stinking rich, and every time he opens his mouth he sounds like the biggest douchebag alive.

But like someone said earlier, if you put all that media crap aside, AND cut him some slack for the pop fluff his label insists he do for the radio exposure, he is a seriously gifted and brilliant musician.

I saw him a few weeks ago on "Abbey Road", a great show that focuses on the creative process and how musicians do what they do without all the BS marketing that goes with it...it was absolutely mesmerizing to me. He plays and sings with a fluidity that is the hallmark of a virtuoso.

Love him or hate him, he's got it. I just wish he would shut up and never talk to a reporter again. He's not stupid, he's a neurotic mess and he needs to stop sharing it!

I just can't stand his music; I find it dull and non-engaging. He may be a talented player, but there are millions of talented players out there. If I loved his music, it wouldn't matter to me how popular or wealthy he was. My dislike is a matter of personal taste, that's all. I love cilantro and hate avocado. Other people are the opposite.

He even admits Continuum is better than Battle Studies. He's a smart cat that knows how to write a pop song, an art in itself! He should just stay away from twitter & interviews and bring some mystery to his persona. Talented cat with skills!
