Where's Nathan East

Got the Clapton Winwood Live in Madison Square Garden DVD.

Willie Weeks was superb, but I thought Nathan East had the Clapton gigs?

Clapton changed the band up about three years ago. I'm a longtime East fan, but I thought Weeks is a better fit for Clapton's material. IMHO and all that.

Nathan first played with Clapton the tracks from "Behind The Sun" that were recorded in LA after Warner Bros. said the album didn't have any hits (Phil Collins was quoted as them saying "where's the next 'Layla'?"). But Clapton's worked with other bassists a lot in all those years between now and then. Chris Stainton's been in and out of the touring line-up going back to "461 Ocean Blvd." So it's not unusual that there's be someone beside Natan on bass for this tour.

Willie was an excellent choice. Like Nathan.

Both are superb at doing the No. 1 role in bass playing - making the front man look good.

That's the number one job of ANY musician. The front man looks good, I look good.

It is interesting how two guys playing very different instruments and styles both do a fantastic job working with Clapton. They are total pros.

I was at one of the shows with Clapton and Winwood together in Madison Square Garden. I had floor seats directly in front of the sound board.

Willie Weeks was magnificent! It was a real education to watch and listen to him just lay back in the pocket and groove. He did nothing flashy. All he did was make the band sound superb, and play for the song. All on a beat up P bass and J bass. He has incredible touch and taste!

Nathan East is probably my favorite bass player, but Willie Weeks is just amazing, I really like his playing and tone....Clapton needs a groovy and tasty player behind him, so they both hold this chair perfectly....

I caught Nathan with Fourplay back in June. I'm pretty sure he and Fourplay are still touring for the summer.
