Who is Alex Al?

I keep finding this guy's name on R+B and smooth jazz recordings. He plays his butt off and has a killer sound, but I know nothing about him. Anybody hear anything?

He appears during the "School Days" jam on Stanley Clarke's "Nightschool" dvd. His jazz bass sounds rather nice there! But I am similarly confused as to who he is, though I've never really looked into his career.

I think he is great as well. But I have looked and not found much about him.
Here is a youtube video from NAMM. At least we know what he looks like now.

Alex is one of the newer generation of first call studio cat's out in L.A right now,he is the favorite of several producers and ends up on a ton of records. And if i remember correctly he used to play on a late night talk show ("Vibe"?) in the '90's

Alex Al is a smokin' bass player. My local music shop guy calls me any time he gets a CD in with Alex Al on it. Check out the songs "This Weekend" and "Havana Nights" on Jimmy Sommers' Lovelife album. It is terrible sax-smooth jazz stuff, but the bass is unreal!!!!!!!

I've seen him a couple of times at the clinics put on by the San Diego Bass Alliance and Bass Quake - MONSTER player! And a really nice guy, too.

According to the organizers and many of the guys attending he is on of the first call guys in LA.

Nice guy; I've talked to him a few times since he's a close friend of a close friend of mine. I've actually got a demo CD he made with said close friend about 10 years ago. Mostly fusion type stuff and very good.

Alex is one of the top 5 studio bass players in the industry and he's performed with some of the biggest artist as well, M. Jackson being one. He also does his share of ghost recordings as well. An extremely talented and very very down to earth kat.

I'll admit, he was pretty darn good on Stan's dvd, I can see why Stan had him in!

Alex Al has been laying down sick grooves for a while. He has played with Earl Klugh, Bobby Lyle and many others. Check out the link for EBS which has some audio and video of Alex using EBS pedals :

A ghost recording is when a studio musician plays on a project and is uncredited.this often happens with Band's when a member is not cutting it in the pressure filled environment of the studio or the producer has a preference for a particular sound or feel and can't get it from the band member's in question.I have seen whole band's replaced in the studio with session guy's and the only person who actually performs on the record is the vocalist. One of the most well known is Hugh McDonald who played on every bon jovi record for years but was never credited until they kicked out the other guy and it became public.Alex Al has played on quit a few recording's uncredited
