Who was this bassist ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi', All,

The Paul Mauriat Orchestra (French) created great music during the 1960's & 1970's. The bass guitar work on tracks like, "Gone is Love", and "My House & the River" is excellent. Sadly, the name of this great bassist remains unknown to most people. Does anyone have an idea of who this bassplayer was ?

Thanks,
Kicklock

I checked all over the place for the name of this bassist with no success. It's a shame that the names of session players in the 1960's did not always make it to album credits. Paul Mauriat is on youtube, and you can find the two songs named above, along with other great interpretations, and compositions of the late bandleader, and his orchectra. Retro, yes, but Retro-Cool

We may never know members changed all the time!

A very important event happened in 1965. It was foundation of the Grand Orchestra. At that time the orchestra was named after him, that is the full name was Paul Mauriat Grand Orchestra. But then, the members of orchestra always changed, almost all the time some people left the orchestra and others came. Only conductor was the same (Paul himself). Nevertheless nothing prevented orchestra from becoming sterling musical foundation, and under the conductorship of Paul it played and recorded hundreds of lovely melodies that are performed all over the world till the present.

Probably Francis Darizcuren, he recorded with Paul many times.

Oh, thanks so much. I really dig Paul Mauriat's work. Some of the best orchestral pop ever, and some of the most moving stuff in my humble opinion. Songwriter Gloria Sklerov wrote, "Gone is Love", the title track from one of PM's great albums. It was her first hit song, and all-instrumental at that. Thanks so much.
