who detunes lowest?
no ERBs. unless a 5er is considered an ERB [mod edit]to extend a basses range would make it an extended range bass... no matter the number of strings.[/mod edit]
*note: Korn doesnt count. to play Korn, just hit 2 rocks together. [mod edit]note: Korn = more successful than you. It's fine not to like the music they play (I don't like it either)... but you're reaction here is similar to what the parents thought of Elvis and the Beatles. [/mod edit]
**other note: 4-banger tuned BEAD doesnt count either. [mod edit]Other note: the question is "Who detunes the lowest on a 4 or 5 string?" so I'm sorry but BEAD is defined by this topic and DOES count[/mod edit]

I forget whose bass that is, though. |

And, beaten to it.

I immediately thought of Fieldy when I read this thread title but I guess he doesn't count. He's in G# if I'm not mistaken on a 5er. I tried detuning my 5er to Bb one time and the string literally did not have enough tension to hold a note. It was a crap bass that ended up literally falling apart but anyways, MAN WAS NOT MEANT TO GO BELOW B. Just kidding. E standard for life |

I tune my 4 an octave below a standard 4. E (20 Hz) A D G
I don't know if Dick Lovgren of Meshuggah is tuning an octave beneath his guitarists yet - when I saw them live he was in unison at F.

One of the earliest examples I can think of is Van Der Graaf Generator- parts of 'A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers' feature a Fender jazz down tuned to A. That was about 1972 I think.

When I played with these guys: http://www.myspace.com/villageofdeadroads I tuned D# A# F A#
It was a pain because there would be gigs that night where I'd have to play with them and my band King Bowman and I tune F C G D with them, so I'd have to have my action set really weird, one of those situations where it would have helped to have 2 basses, oh well.
Also, what is the point of this: **other note: 4-banger tuned BEAD doesnt count either.
Strange rules for a strange contest.

Strange rules for a strange contest. | no. it is not a contest
weird tunings are too confusing. (unless in that first band mentioned, the tuning you posted is in 4ths)
second band is a reprise of what i said for the first band
the point of 'no 4-bangers tuned BEAD' is that i know for a fact that many people use this tuning so that they dont have to have a 5.
im now going to go start a weird tunings thread. |
