Anyone chime in with Robert Mercurio of Galactic? Out front holding the groove while Stanton Moore does his thing.

Weird. None of my favorite electric players has my favorite electric sound. Anyway, Jay Leonhart has my favorite URB sound.

Entwistle
McCartney
Chris Squire
Geddy Lee
Jack Bruce

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

Trevor Bolder from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars

King Crimson's red album- p bass with Hiwatts!

Whoever played bass on Magnificent seven from the clash, i know it wasn't Simonon

Bassplayer for Kortatu (basque punk band from 80's)

La femme d'argent and the Word Hurricane from AIR, i think it was JMJ who played bass on the former, not sure.

And Peter Hook for being in Joy Division. I heard them and thought.....I can play bass too. Thank you man!

Those are the sounds I try to emmulate because they are the ones I like the best.

Great choices! How about:

Matt Sharp on Pinkerton - perfect J-bass zing combined with a beautifully natural / non-cheesy sounding bass distortion

Peter Cetera on Chicago I and II - textbook Precision/flatwound/picked "boom"

Christian McBride on Diana Krall's "Love Scenes" album - DYNOMITE! You can hear his fingerprints.

John Wetton sounded massive on Red....+1 for that.

I also enjoyed Bob Daisley's p bass sound.

George Murray with Bowie, Tony Levin with Peter Gabriel, especially on the So, Us, and Up albums. Oh, and Pino on Townshend's Give Blood. That song is why I have a fretless and an octaver.
