Who likes Geddy's vocal?

I do. The reason why I initially got into Rush was not Geddy's bass but his vocal. The 1st Rush song I ever heard was "Natural Science" on the radio long long time ago. I had never heard such a hysterical voice before. I got so hooked that I actually called the radio station to find out the song title and the band's name!

I didn't care so much for some of the earlier "shrill" stuff, but for the most part I think he does a pretty good job.

Very hard for me to bash others vocals because I have a very hard time with singing. Got a very limited range that keeps me from doing most stuff.

I do. Caress of Steel may be one of the best albums ever made. Of course I think he is an incredible bass player too.

The more wailing the better. Especially in the case of Anthem

I love the early stuff, and up to about Moving Pictures. After that he gets a bit too tame for my taste. No doubt he decided that he had to chill out a bit. I'm a bass player/singer too (though nowhere near as good as Geddy on either front) and I can imagine that he needed to figure out a way to sing that wouldn't kill his voice every night during tours.

LOL, same here. The first time I heard him I thought it was just too weird. The more I listened I became able to appreciate the uniqueness and range he's got. He sounds better to me on some stuff than other.
I think at the end of the day his instrument (voice) has helped him and the band more than holding them back (I wish I could sing like that!) There is only one Geddy, and he is unmistakeble.

I like it. I like the early stuff, I like the later stuff. I think his voice is appropriate to the music at the time.

I was turned on to the 2112 album in late 1979. I always liked his vocals. The were perfect for that album.

The first Rush cassette tape I purchased was "A Farewell To Kings". I remember that it was the vocals that first interested me in the band. I also remember that I looked at the back of the cassette to see who the singer was. And for several months, I thought the singer was "Taurus Pedals"!!; (Geddy Lee sounded just as odd).

I've always liked his vocals, from the early days to today. It's a part of the complete package that defines Rush. Hell, if anything it's no worse than Bob Dylan or Chad Kroeger!

+1 i love geddy's voice, it's always been so unique, even though he's changed it -alot- over the years.

i've given caress of steel spin time at least once a month for the past 30 years.

yeesh, i sound old.

IMO maybe the worst voice in rock. Along with Trey Anastasio.

I like it too. I practically grew up listening to them (my bro was a fan long before I was so the music was always on) so it doesnt sound weird to me. Its definitely distinctive thats for sure.

Its not for me. I never owned a Rush album or cd until after I started playing bass and that was just to listen to the bass lines. I often wonder how much better Rush would have been if they had a good singer. Would the Who have been as great as they were if they did not have Rodger out front? Yes, Pete & John could sing but Rodger put them over the top.

Geddy's voice is just one of things you have to accept in order to listen to his great bass playing; a lot like Les Claypool, since I couldn't imagine Primus without that voice. It just fits with all the rest.

I really, really appreciate his ability. I don't necessarily prefer his voice but he's really talented.
