This may have been done before, but I cant find anything like it in the search function, so I'll start one!
I want you guys to tell me who not only inspires you as a bassist, but just makes you feel damn proud to be one. Who is the person that has the tone, looks, personality and/or passion that just makes you proud?
For me it is Rex Brown of Pantera, his Spector and Ampeg rig blast out a tone that is to die for, the technicality of his riffs are blows me away (although at times they are a tad plain), and the guy just looks like a top bloke. I have many favourite bassist's, but Rex really motivates me to get great at bass, go out there and someday stun an audience.
What about you guys? I'm interested to know.
Lets not turn this into a bassist bashing thread either. If someone says Fieldy drives them as a bassist, there is no need to flame him/her because of it.

He does it all without relying on jumping around or smashing his bass either, another testament to his ability to wow a crowd with sheer musicianship. Aspiring to him is like a guitarist aspiring to be Jimmy Page- damn near impossible but great for improvement. |

They are all great musicians and people.

I saw Maiden live in the 80s and they were so Bad-A I couldn't believe it was live. Then, the second I take my eyes off Steve, the bass line stops. What? . . . I search for Steve and I see him being tossed out of the pit between the stage and the crowd immediately followed by his bass. He catches it in mid air and all in one move, without missing a beat, turnes it up and comes in with his patented triplets. There ya go.

He helped (and mostly built) a 1x15 cab made completly out of poplar from my poor design schematics two years ago. I love you pop!!!

He doesn't exactly motivate me, but he sure is impressive, and I can admire his skill.

Of course it has all the unattractive attributes of poplar but I thought they were quite attractive when poly was added to bring out the puke green and dark stripes of poplar. I admit it didn't make a great bass cab (my fault) but it had great potential as a blues guitar cab! I will take some pics tomorrow.
