It was either Murray or Flowers. Which one of them had the red Jazz Bass with block inlays?

I remember Dee Murray playing a red P-Bass and Flowers mainly playing a Blue 60's J-Bass.

Older brits like myself will remember both these guys fondly, particularly Herbie who played on everything from 'Walk on the Wild Side' to 'Two Little Boys'

I heard somewhere he spent 10 years in the army as tuba player and didn't pick up a bass guitar until he was about 30 ??

That blue jazz bass played of tons of hit singles in the 70s, as well as his more famous work with Bowie, Bolan, Reed etc. Think he's still playing, although Dee Murray sadly died a long time ago.

A combination of all that you mentioned.

Nor at all. Dee sang on stuff on "Madman Across The Waters", but only played bass on one song, "All The Nasties". I don't think he played on any songs on "Tumbleweed Connection", and know he didn't appear at all on "Elton John". "Honky Château" is the first studio album that has the band ( Dee, Nigel, and Davey) on it.

Producer Gus Dudgeon doubted Dee and Nigel's chops when they were first hired as EJ's road band and thus only used them sparingly in the studio early on.

Sure you can. Buy the CD, read the liner notes.

Or, Google is your friend!

Phil Lesh did, of course!

Played for the late, great Levon Helm shortly after his passing.
