East was specifically talking about the tune, "Footllose" (w/ a bit of it transcribed).
Other columns had "Easy Lover" & "Forever Man".
Hey, please do a photo of article, what was the year of this GP issue ?
I'm curious about that

George Hawkins also toured with Al Jarreau in the early 80s as well as playing in the legendary LA band The Pages. The last time I saw him live was with Delbert McClinton and he just killed it!

Don't want to de-rail this thread. But George Hawkins has also done a lot of work with the various Fleetwood Mac folks on their solo recordings. I last saw him on tour with John Fogerty. Nice as ever. And JimK, I agree... his ability to sing while simulatneously laying down some sincopated funky bassline just amazes me. One of the hardest things for me to do.

How does it all tie in?
Pages had Richard Page/Steve George...who wrote tunes for Loggins (e.g. "Who's Right, Who's Wrong" from Keep The Fire) & Jarreau.

1) Will need to locate it (the easy part)
2) Photo? That's the hard part.

Nathan East played on the recording of Footloose and if you check the archives of Guitar player magazine, Nathan used to write an article and published the part along with a story around 1986-87

George Hawkins, Vernon Porter and Freddy Washington, Jr., toured and recorded as well

I'm a long time fan of George Hawkins, I remember he sounded great on Loggins second album that was produced by Bob James. The band Loggins had with Vernon Porter and Neil Larson just killed too.

I found in their archives that in October 1985 there was article with Nathan East, and on the cover was Stanley Jordan, maybe thats it http://www.prestostore.com/store.php...ulp&pd=2267147

The issue with the Stanley Jordan cover has a full blown article/interview with Nathan East.

The John Scofield cover (June 1985) is the issue with East's column (Bass Tracks) about "Footloose".
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Guitar-Playe...-/230618230689

It is a 1-page thing...the transcribed excerpt is the "Footloose" chorus...East sez he "...doubled the actual bass line on the record an octave higher on guitar" (Buzz Feiten's guitar was borrowed).
"The line can be played using only two strings, the open-A & fingered notes on the D-string".

What else Nathan said in this article ?
What guitar was he used in this session ?

...the guitar belonged to Buzzy Feiten...that's all he said.
Man, some of you guys get hung up on gear!

It's only a few paragraphs, the entire Bass Tracks column is 1-page...1/2 of it is the transcription. Most of the written word dealt with finding the right "feel" for this tune...East & Tris Imboden (drummer, now with Chicgao, IIRC) went through several permutations (mostly live) before Loggins liked what he heard.

I know Kenny was always fond of an acoustic bass. Nathan probably played the track but live I've always seen Freddy Washington play it , on acoustic bass.
