This question doesn't really belong under "Bass Guitar" because it was an upright, but, does anyone know? Also, who played guitar? |

But the other bass players on the "Elton John" Album were:
Alan Weighll and Les Hurdie. |

I don't know about CDs, but the vinyl had a dtrack-by-track listing of all the musicians on it. I'm accepting iamthebassman's post. Not just because he has Dee's Steinberger, but because while I no longer have the vinyl, the other names are the ones I recall from it.

jte | Well, there was cello on that track, which we all know lends a small few bass frequencies. |

In the early sixties I played double bass with the Manne-Hugg Blues Brothers which later became the pop group Manfred mann. At this time I switched to bass guitar. After the recording of "5-4-3-2-1" I left the band and briefly joined the John Barry Seven after which I started my session career. I played on TV and recorded with many of the british pop stars of the day including Dusty Springfield, Cliff Richard, Cilla Black, Serge Gainsborough/Jane Birkin("Je T'aime"), Labi Sifre ("It Must Be Love". I played on Elton John's black album on the two biggest hit tracks "Your Song" and "Border Song".

I agree that it sounds like URB, but he says he had "switched to bass guitar" by then. I'm not sure why, but I'm really curious about this.
