Anyone here who feels that you are your own favourite bassist? Like seriously.
Remember, I didnt say 'the best' I just said favourite.

I was pre-gaming at my guitarists place last weekend before we went out to the bars, and he had his music on shuffle and we were listening to all kinds of different genres and bands. I remember this one song started playing and I instantly thought to myself, "Wow, I love what that bassist is playing on this track." As if my guitarist read my mind, he turned to me and said, "You know this is us from sophomore year (of college), right?"
I literally dropped out right then in and there. I couldn't believe what I was hearing was myself and that the song that was playing was one we had written two years ago. I was actually thinking to myself how much I was digging that guy's groove and that I wish I could write something like that (apparently I can ).
I definitely wouldn't consider myself my favorite bassist, but it was definitely a cool moment and one that made me really respect my abilities as a player. |

That said, I think you have to be able to really like your own playing, in order to ever play with the kind of relaxation, self-confidence, poise, and creative flair that allows others to like it as well.
I personally like the fact that I've developed something of a distinctive personal voice on the instrument, incorporating something of the melodic, contra-puntal sensibility of Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, Bruce Thomas, John Lodge, and others - primarily those of the British art rock persuasion...

OK I'm not a great bass player but I'm the only one I can jam with. So that would at least make me the most accessable bass player I know.

I happen to like my own style of playing very much. I guess that is why I play that way. Because I like it, I dig the music that I attempt to play. Pretty obvious actually, why else would I be playing it.
But there are many other players who are more accomplished in their style than I am. I enjoy listening to their playing more than my own, possibly because I am less sensitive about their mistakes than my own.

No, I am not my favorite bassist. I am not my favorite anything.
