But also:
- Igor Stravinsky (composer)
- Elliott Carter (composer)
- Charles Bukowski (poet/author/drunk)
- Daniel Dennett (philosopher/neuroscientist/professor/author)
- Carl Sagan (astronomer/physicist)
- Richard Feynman (physicist)
- Robert Fripp (guitarist)
- Pat Martino (guitarist)
- Mark Dresser (upright bassist)
- Mick Jagger (rock star)
- Ben Franklin (polymath)
- Laurie Anderson (performance artist/musician)
- Jane Siberry (singer/composer)
No electric bassists, oddly.

As for bassists, I'd want to hang out with my main influences and thank them and talk to them about how they played/play bass-
Geddy Lee- I'd just want to thank him, particularly for using so many low-high open and 7th fret e (the note)s, so many pairs of sixteenth notes and so many variations on a descending scale in d. anyway...
Jaco- I'd like to chat to him for a bit about composition and soloing. Then I'd want to talk to guys like John Paul Jones, Jack Bruce and, in particular Mick Grondahl, Chris Squire and Mike Rutherford and ask them how the hell they came up with some of their lines.
So there you have it | Since you mention Grondahl, I would like to add the rest of Jeff Buckley in this. Mickey, Matt, Jeff, and Michael would all be great to talk to. Parker Kindred as well, but not as much as the other guys. Also, JPJ, Flea, Tim Commerford, Les Claypool, Grohl, Geddy and many more |

I just read the Jack Bruce Bio that's out and I can deal with the partying but it seem the guy is bitter. I don't think I would like to see a guy that I worshipped and see that he's bitter. Even a song like White Room about going through withdrawal wasn't bitter. And She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow was a celebration.
I've spoken to some guys that have made the choice to play full time. Many seem happy with the choice. A unifiying thread is that many musicians aren't business men.
I think this is what happened to his career. He went from so many fantasitc colors make me feel so grand to Rope Ladder to the Moon.
All that being said Al Kooper is an interesting guy. In fact thanks for reminding me that That I have been meaning to read one of his bios.
Or Akira Kurosawa. This guy was deep. If not him The Buddha. |
