Who's funkier: Larrhy Graham or Bootsy Collins?

The ultimate battle of the funk bassists, baby!!

Larry might be better technically and is a way better singer, but Bootsy has that funk feel you just can't teach. What say you?

And yes, I know there's a typo in the title... Damn

I don't know. Who's got a hotter @$$, Nicky Manaj or Beyonce?

In both cases, the funk is in the eye of the beholder.

Love 'em both. Isn't it great that two of the biggest icons for our instrument in our defining genre are still alive and kicking? We could still see both these legends on the same stage for a real-life battle royal. The world would stop orbiting the sun in a straight circle and start bopping to a groove.

And a little groove. That helps too.

I would kill to see them battle it live -- although I do think Bootsy is better suited to playing in an 11- or 12-piece band, more of a pocket player, while Graham can kill it with just him and a drummer.

What's hotter--the frying pan or the fire?

I favor Mr. Graham, the innovator, myself. I met him once. The nicest dude out of all the dudes who were ever dudes.

Me too! Beyonce over Nicki Minaj any day... Minaj always came off to me as a bit fake

I don't know if you guys can tell--not like I have an avatar and a quote involving him--but I'm a huge fan of Bootsy. To me his grooves, while simple, just fit so well in the larger band contexts he's played in. I definitely agree with him being most at home IMO in a larger band whereas Graham slays in more bare bones situations.

That being said, I love Graham's stuff and he definitely revolutionized the bass guitar as we know it. If it weren't for him, would guys like Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten be as they are today? But Bootsy's it for me! It's all about the one, y'know?

We mere mortals are not even allowed (or have the capacity) to think in those terms of who's funkier between the two. Shame on you.

Uh, Louis Johnson would like, walk in between them and stuff, then smash their heads together, and they would like, fall to the ground, and he would stand on top of the two lifeless bodies and say, "By the power of "Strawberry Letter 23", I am the understated true god of the funk!!!" Then he would say, c'mon Flea (his sidekick) , let's go and save the world from pocketless, groove starved songs. and Flea would say, like, "to the Aeroplane!!" or something.
Just kidding.

"Sly & the Family Stone" and "Graham Central Station" weren't bare bones bands. No slight to you or Bootsy. Different flavors of funkaliciousness. Oh yeah, almost forgot... Beyonce!

Not feeling Beyonce's music. She's beautiful & talented but her music--her voice hurts my ears.

You mention Flea in the same thought as Larry and Bootsy?!?!?
