I just saw the Nelson Mandella Birthday Concert on the Palladium channel.
Stevie Winder ended the Concert with a song he wrote for the Concert. His bass player was super. I gotta feeling he's someone famous but I can't place him.
He's like 50ish; Afro-American, heavy, dressed all in black w/ pork pie hat. Looked like he was playing a Fender P.
Anyone know who he is?

Although Stevie's left hand played bass on quite a few tunes, Nate's parts were always awesome when used and he can tackle anything Stevie throws at him live and then some. Check out Sir Duke if you want a fun tune to build your chops up to.

The reason Watts looked familiar is becuase I read the damned article in Bass Player a coupla days ago. At age 63, I have trouble remembering what I did 2 hours ago!
I didn't mispell "Wonder" - it was a typo. On the keyboard the "i" is next to the "o" and I just hit the wrong key.
However, I do fault myself for not proofreading carefully enough. I happen to be an esxellent speller.
Anyways, the beers are on me

Isn't that Charlie Watt's brother?

Damn, the "i" is next to the "o" on my keyboard too. That must be common on E - machines.
Reggie McBride was playing with SW back in the 70's when I saw him. He also played with Tommy Bolan after the Teaser album came out. Michael Walden was on drums. Caught them at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, CA. Shame that TB died of an overdose back then.

I'll take whatever's on tap. Thanks! |

And Jim Dep - big props to you for knowing that Reggie McBride played with Tommy Bolin for awhile. Bolin is one of my heroes!
Reggie also played on a couple of mid 70's Funkadelic LPs.
But Nathan Watts is a bad, bad mofo.
