Anyone seen the Don & Dave Gruisin "Hang" on HDNet last month? I recorded it and the 2nd tune, a sort of reggae-latin number has this bass solo by Abe Laboriel that's outta this world!
It's interesting on a few levels: he's playing a huge Yami 5 string. He actually starts jumping up n down while slapping the crap out of the Yami while at the same time thrusting his arms in the air. You get a glimpse of his Aggie rig behing him.
All in all a very cool watch. Nathan East also appears with the group and it's really an all-star "who's who" of modern jazz with Lee Ritenour and Patti Austin to name a few. |
