IF it's guitar player, I'd have it.. in storage.

PM me if you find the issue.. I'llbe moving all of them out.

Isn't Will Lee on the very 1st issue of Bass Player (not counting the earlier "test issues" with Geddy Lee & "The Art Of Soloing").
IIRC, he's holding an old Jazz with a maple Valley Arts neck.

There was a long article on Will in a Guitar World magazine from the late 80's, but he's not on the cover. There's picture of him stringing the bass you are talking about, with one of the strings in his mouth.

When he was on the cover of Bass Player Magazine (around that time), Letterman held up a copy of the cover on the show.

I subscribed to GP from 1972 through at least 1993, and never saw him on the cover. But he WAS on a very early BP mag, and that started before 1989. I'm thinking that's the cover you're recalling.

Didn't he also share the BP cover with Chuck Rainey in about the mid-90's?

The earliest cover of BP that I have him on he has his Sadowsky with a quilted maple top, maple fingerboard. It's pretty early in the magazine's life.

I have that issue in my archives. PM me if you need scans.

That was about '88 and you're right, he was not on the cover.

I think Billy Sheehan (with a blue Yamaha signature model) was the first non-test issue cover. Will was the next one (I think, might have been the Technique issue) and he's holding the Sadowsky. That was early '90. (I have all my issues at home, right now I'm at work).

Yes, they are both holding vintage sunburst P Basses on that one. I think I still have that in my bathroom. '97 I believe.

Not only did Wil share the cover with Chuck, he did a good portion of the interview. One of my favorite BP articles!

Yes he is. I'm looking at the Fall 1990 issue right now.

EDIT: Actually Billy Sheehan was on the first official issue in Spring of 1990.

Right, Billy Sheehan was #1...Muzz Skillings is another early cover boy.

Just took a look-
1-Sheehan
2-Red Hot Equipment (No Cover Boy)
3-Will Lee
4-Jaco
5-Chops No Cover Boy)
6-Muzz Skillings

...would be nice if Bass Player's website had a archive of all the past issues.

+1, a few years ago Modern Drummer magazine was offering all the past issues on DVDs, I always thought that would be a great idea too.
