That's a great rig with a great sound! One of my favorite bassists of all time Pete Way of UFO pretty much was the first guy on the rock scene to have married that combination up using the original SVT gear with a real early 60's and later the reissued '76 T-bird bass. Thunderous for sure!

Butterfly seems to be rocking a similar rig on tour with Sarah.

I'm working on selling or trading my GB SM9.2 and getting a GK MB Fusion 500 or Fusion 550. I'm thinking that head paired with my two GK Neo 212 cabs should keep me satisfied for a long time. Surprising I've only had a couple of trade offers that I wasn't interested in so far. If I can't sell the Genz after a couple of weeks maybe I'll just hang onto it until the MB Fusion 800 is released and save up and trade in the SM9.2 for a new MB Fusion 800 and really rock the house. Just a thought...

BTW - great to hear from a few members that we haven't heard from lately.

As I sit here with my first cup of coffee ready to play in church today, I can't help but wonder why so many players here and on TB are always buying, selling, and trading gear?
I know that I've done some, but after making the mods to my G&Ls and going to a Genz Benz amp with a line 6 wireless I have the the perfect mix of gear and sound I've always wanted.
I ask this because someone will post "I've got this or that and in a short time it's for sale or trade cause they just have to have the next thing.
Do you find yourselves tiring of your sound?
I'm not trying to say its wrong, just don't understand it. I've played other gear, but as soon as I pick up a bass at a store ,its not my G&L.
Maybe this is to deep of a thought process this early LOL
What say you?

I suspect several things in play behind gear churn. Audition by purchase, impulsive purchases and trying to get rigs down to balloon weight.

So much of the gear on the market above mass market price and performance level is not to be found in stores outside of cities like New York or Atlanta. Face it, what shop in Wisconsin stocks brands like Bergantino and Demeter? The only way to get to audition the upper end gear is GTG or buy it to try it. The harsh thing is, even at the upper level, everything has its own sound, and that sound may or may not work for a bassist's tone goals.

The internet has fostered impulsive purchasing. A few keystrokes and UPS shows up in a few days with something. I do think it was a bit harder to go to a store and spend money.

Then there is that weight thing. There are so many players chasing the goal of very low weight rigs with the tone of big rig. I sure understand that, but it can also lead to disappointments when things don't work as well on stage as they did with mid weight gear.

Well, I don't shop locally any more for bass related purchases.

Dave's Guitars in La Crosse is the most likely place I'd go. Worth the trip.

Ditto, I shop online. I haven't found a local store that caters to bass.

I'd much rather do business with a local store and gain a working relationship with them.

The nearest one I'd like to checkout someday is Bass Club Chicago.

Hey Guys,

Been some time since my last post but it has been one hell of a ride. Radiation Induced Osteo-Necrosis. That's the bad.

The Good?

Guitar player that I am working with on original music didn't like how much I had to struggle to move my Orange OR120 and Reflector cab just to jam.

As a Christmas gift he gave me a rig to use that is lighter. Well sort of... the cabinet is an old Mesa, 4x12, angled top, with a sealed bottom pair and open back top pair of 12's. Of course it is somewhat of a beefy lift but nowhere near that '71 Reflector cab with 2x15's.

Yeah, yeah I've heard it all before about how bad that is going to sound for bass. But in my/our context, how I play, and the tone required for a trio all I can say is who would have thought.

Or maybe it has something to do with that little hand wired, locally built in Stevens Point, "Matchless" tube clone he also gave me. He has three others done by the same tube nut and thought I should have one too.

Pix coming on Tuesday when we do the Jam in the New Year get together.

I liked my sound with my GB SM9.2 and my GB Uber 410 cab , but there were two problems that made me want a change.

#1 - Blew my back out lifting (improperly) the Uber 410 cab.
#2 - I played through two 410 cabs stacked for many years and when I went to just one 410 cab I couldn't hear myself (at most gigs) because I was so used to having that other cab on top.

That said I decided to go with GK Neo cabs based on reviews from some highly respected TB members and their reasonable price. Now I want to sell the SM9.2 because I'm preferr keeping my bass rig all one brand. I really want the MB Fusion 500 to go with the GK Neo cabs. I think that I'll be set with my bass rig for years to come once I make the switch.

That said - The Genz rig was great and I don't blame theduke for being very happy with his rig!!

As I started I am not saying it is right or wrong, and I changed rigs alot over the years, It just seems that we see lot of posts stating I just got this that or the other thing and i'm set then next week its for sale or trade.
Just wondering with not enough coffee!
HAve a great day! Go Pack GO!

Ahh chasing the Tone Bone. We are silly little mutts at times are we not.

Now if I had just stopped chasing the Tone Bone when I had my '68 Precision and Garnet tube amp I could add a smirk emoticon.

Since I started recording everytime I play utilizing my tiny Zoom, I'm happy tweaking the tone controls on my Brubaker. The recording never sounds like I think it does in the room... better actually...

I will agree that there are few places to try out higher end gear.
If not for KJung letting me play through his Genz Benz I would never have pulled the trigger on a $1200 rig. I would still be looking for a light wieght good vintage sounding amp. What moves me the most about my rig is that what you hear coming out is just the sound of my G&Ls I run the rig mostly flat I never had that before!

OMG Mr. Bear! A Mesa 412 cab is your lighter cab!!! I could never do that again. You should pick up a GK Neo 112-II and leave it at your practice space. At $399.00 (plus 15% off right now through Musicians Friend) and 30 Lbs you cant go wrong. It really pumps for a small cab. Chef and Vic (Bass gear gurus) both use them and swear by them. Just my opinion of course.

P-P

PS - good to hear from you again. Wish you the best for this New Year!

I'm in agreement. The 112 is 30lbs, the 115 is 40 and the 212 is 50. They all seem to perform so well for their gossamer weight, too. I don't have the guts to go with a pair of 12s, but I think I might get a 15 to sit on top of my 212, mismatched though it would be.

More than likely I'll just use both of the 212's for larger venues and outdoor gigs. Maybe I'll use them all the time. I won't know for sure until I get a few trial runs in with them.

Looks like my SM 9.2 may be selling soon so I will have to decide soon to either go with the Fusion 550 and give it a try again or the MB Fusion 500. I'm so undecided on which one.

I don't know, man. I'm a fan of the micro heads. But they don't have all the same features, so you'll have to decide if that's worth it.
