What's weird is things don't seem to be so rigid here anymore. Tons of people I talk to are splitting nights with one or even two other bands, each doing a set.

I can honestly say that 95% of the bands in the Northwoods do the three set 9-1 gig. The only exception that I can think of is a friend of mines Death Metal band who plays mostly all originals and usually splits the bill with a couple other Metal bands. Since they write their own music they really don't have enough materiel to cover a full gig. There isn't much call for Death Metal bands in the Northwoods so they do travel a bit to the Fox Valley area and Madison.

We have a ways to go before we try anything like that, just curious what route people take. Thanks! |

| | | My band is kind of a glutton for punishment...we play 2 sets and take about a 15 min break...any longer, and people leave! Top it off, we're a high energy '80's rock band and I'm still lugging around at least one SVT 810/Classic every night! Guess it's one way for an old guy to stay in shape
BTW, from Appleton, is there a spare number?

I don't think I could last that long without having to Pee!! Drinking beer and having my bass cabs kick me in the kindneys makes me have to go bad!! By the end of each set I'm running to the john. Usually end up playing the last two songs of each set in pain I gotta go so bad. Lets just say I don't move around as much at the end of a set as I do in the beginning of a set!!!
I updated the list on the previous page. You are #126. Thanks for joining and we hope to hear from you.

Dang beer and pounding bass really does the number on me. Ya , I could do without the beer but you gotta have some fun at a gig - especially when the drinks free for the band. It's not like I over-indulge or anything...

I can honestly say in all of my years gigging that I've over-indulged twice. Once at a private birthday party when some one was feeding me strong 7&7's. The other was a New Years gig many years ago , but that was a couple hours after we were supposed to be done playing. Needless to say I don't drink mixers at gigs anymore since then...

In different bands, things were different. I played in a wedding band for years that had as much fun as anyone in the hall. I was also 30 years younger at the time.

| | | I haven't drank in 25 years, but if I had known how much of a rush playing sober for me would have been, even in my craziest days, I would have done it sober!! Just amazed how much of a drug perfoming for me is...I sure don't put myself through this abuse for the $$$$!!!!!

I can't help with your question about where to play out since I haven't lived in your neck of the woods for years. The only problem that I see with your bands situation on wanting to play out at some point is that you'll need to learn 3 sets worth of cover tunes which will in turn take away from writing songs.
I'd just learn a bunch of easy popular crowd pleasing fun songs (there's a ton to choose from) and then gradually sneak in a few challenging cover tunes and maybe an original or two.
Good luck and have fun!! | I think you'll find your best way out of the garage might be at an open jam. Being that open jams have been replacing karaoke as a form of cheap live entertainment that bar owners dont have to pay much money for, they are every where these days. If unfamiliar in your area, check out www.milwaukeerocks.com for the weekly schedule. Cheryl's on 175 might run one out your way. I'm sure there are several in West Bend as well. |

Much harder for the cops to smell weed on your breath, when you keep some nice Rocky Patel's in the ash tray. The DUI in 2005 just forced me to need to rethink having that much fun at a gig. Now I just have a creative evening....and I don't wind up leaving with any stray dogs anymore either!
Besides playing stoned doesn't affect your judgement with what is right and wrong like booze does. But you do find yourself making bongs out of coasters, napkins and ketchup bottles. Besides my wife gets real bitchy when good looking girls start showing up to drive me to a gig.

Let us all resolve to be safe this year, whether we indulge or not!

Sheryls is a good idea too. I've never heard of them doing something but I do know they book a lot of music, might be worth a trip over there.
Thanks! |

The Badgers were way too predictable with their limited passing (so called) attack. Third and one - May as well try it straight up the gut. Couldn't see that one coming?? Well - they shouldn't have been there anyways.
