I've been playing out of the same Fender M80 amp since 1992, and I've just never bothered to spend even a second of my time thinking about amplification since then. I'm woefully ignorant. I'm hoping some of you folks might help educate me a bit! |

So far loving every minute of it! I'm 42, wondering why to took me so long to get started. Better late than never I guess. It would seem like with all the fairs and festivals that go on, there would be lots of opportunities to play out? |

Good-luck with the GTG!! I can't make it even though I'll be in Madison the next day for a concert. I'm bringing people down with me for the concert and one of them (nephew from Nevada) won't get to Wisconsin until the 17th late afternoon. Really don't feel like running to Madison and back two days in a row (3+ hour drive one way). Hopefully I can make the next one and meet some of you guys.

I'm probably going to have to pass on this one however. My daughter in law is due with twins around that time.
So what exactly goes on at these get togethers? |

Well, the gang living in Madison is living on the dark side of the moon as far as what is out there in stores to try. We either have to buy to try or travel to audition gear. A GTG allows players to try gear they may have read about but can't get their hands on locally. It is also a meeting place where you can get to know the people that are active here on talk bass.
It can really pay off. I have benefited by hearing other gear and realizing my gear is just fine and by building relationships with other area bassists. I had my amplifier need repair last year, and was able to get through a show thanks to the help of one of the fine men I got to know at a GTG.
Jim

Is it cool to bring beer or what's teh deal with this place?

Here's the rules:
1. Respect the facility and others within it.
2. Do not engage in any conduct that others may find offensive or discriminating.
3. There will be no more than ONE GUEST (non-band member) allowed in the room or in the building at any time unless otherwise approved by Madison Music Foundry.
4. Madison Music Foundry will inspect rooms prior to, and after rehearsal. Renter WILL BE responsible and/or prosecuted to the full extent of the law if any property is defaced, stolen, broken, damaged or otherwise considered an unlawful act. If a piece of equipment is not working or you need technical assistance - ask for help. If you break something - just tell us.
5. There will be no illegal drugs used or sold on these premises (including common area and parking lot) at any time. This also includes (but not limited to) minors partaking of alcoholic beverages or any other form of illegal consumption.
I think us old guys are OK with beer. But if we call a guitar player a guitard that might be a call to the PC Police.

I've got it in the planner. Something to look forward to!
...AND I played music with some folks for the first time in too long last night. Looks like we may have a full band (drums, bass, guitar, vocals) come January. Exciting! |

I don't think I have anything going on that day and I've been looking for an excuse to head to Madison and visit some family anyway. If I can "kill two birds with one stone" it's much more likely to happen!

TC Electronics PolyTune >
MXR M87 Bass Compressor >
Source Audio Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion >
Source Audio Pro Bass Envelope Filter
Moog EP2 Expression Pedal (for sale, cheap)
I'm interested in checking out people's analog overdrive/distortion and DIs. SansAmp BDDI, Hartke Bass Attack, VT Bass, MXR M80, etc...
