First gig is March 2 at McAullife's Pub in Racine, then off to the races in time for St Pat's drinking season. Hopefully we will be able to do a full launch with the new lineup - new website, merch, etc, but time is short. At least it looks like the band will continue, better than before. | This is exciting news! Great to see the local pillar of the Celt Rock scene will continue! For all the newer guys in our WI Bass playin' Crew, if you live in SE WI or any other part of the state, should you see the Sandcarvers are in your area, you have got to go see them! Chris is a top notch player with an exceptional sound that you just have to check out! They are rock, they are Celt and they can get funky too!
Oddly, there seems to be an awful lot of beer every where they are. Not sure what the connection is..... |

Hey new dudes! Please contribute when you can and what you can! We'd even love to hear about a new tune you are working out, a good audition, a bad audition...just share when you can! You have a serious wealth of pro resources in the Club for information, please ask about things you might be curious about. Love to hear about a rotten club owner, a good band booking agent experience (ha ha we all know this is a fairy tale). And post pictures when you can! We LOVE pictures!
What has kept this WI Bass Club gong for as long as it has is in your contributions! So post early and post often!
Heading to see Tricia at Country Corners in McFarland next Saturday night on the 16th. By then our front man will be enjoying his new baby with his lovely wife..and we will be playing a typical Country Storm seat of the pants gig! We have our great friend Kenny Pool coming over from Ann Arbor MI to fill in. Hanging with Kenny usually leads to hand cuffs, rotating blue and red lights, a fried egg sandwich with black coffee and one phone call! I can't friggin' wait! [/IMG]

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Aug 2012 Location: Manitowoc, WI | | | Just dropped some LaBella tapewounds on my Peavey P that I got from Duke. Man alive what a comfortable string. I've been using Fender flats for a little over a year and was happy, but I got some of the snap and high end back with the nylons. They're a thicker gauge, but they actually feel a lot lighter than the stainless flats. They remind me of the nylon strings on my URB (which is what I gig with) a bit.
Now I'm thinking about pulling the frets one of my P basses to try and get something close to the upright sound. Not sure if I'll commit yet, but it's in my head. Maybe I'll get some cheap beater and try it on there first. I need some kind of backup for the doghouse, and it would be nice to have some semblance of a similar sound. Ideas?
I don't check in as much as I'd like to, but it's good to see this thread staying somewhat busy.
As for Duke's Squier, that quarter pounder make quite a difference. Along with the heavier bridge and brass saddles it came in with that thing sounds pretty killer.
I dropped a pair of quarter pound jazz pups in a Mexican Fender a while back for a buddy and they were phenomenal.
I'll try to get pics up soon of a project I just finished up. I mounted a Bigbsy style tremolo on an Epiphone Thunderbird for a friend/customer a few weeks ago. It still needs a heavier spring, but it's kind of cool to play around on. It's amazing the weird projects people bring me, but that keeps it a lot of fun!
I'm organizing/playing a big benefit for a local musician tonight. 13 bands, 2 floors, a DJ, raffles. It's going to be madness, but it's for a good cause. Should be fun!

I thought it was a really cool little rock n roll bar. It only holds like 50-70 people max, but its such cozy and great sounding room.
What's everyone's favorite clubs to play in SE Wi? I, for one, love playing at Linnemans Riverwest Inn in Milwaukee. Great sound, nice big room, and the owner is obsessed with the Kinks...my kind of guy.

I've been quite lately because I have been going through some major drama trying to get my new bass rig and it's been going on for almost two months now. Most of it is Musicians Friend fault. They sent me a GK Neo 212-II cab and a GK Fusion 550 that were supposed to be new and they were not. They swear that the GK Neo cab was new - you be the judge. http://s1218.beta.photobucket.com/us...20Neo%20212-II
I didn't even open the box and set up an exchange. When I ordered the cabs about 6 weeks ago I was told that they were in stock - then I got an e-mail a couple days later saying that they were on back-order. Then after a few weeks they sent me one of the cabs - the piece of junk that I returned.
The box of the Fusion 550 that I received last week had a shipping label cut off with a utility knife that actually was cut all the way through the box except for a small portion of the cut. One of the corners was ripped all the way down and re-taped up and the box was obviously opened and re-taped shut. Then when I opened it the protective Styrofoam was all dented cracked and broken and the protective film that covers the Gallien Krueger label was missing. The warranty form and the foot-pedal that are supposed to come with it were also missing.
Gallien Krueger is trying to get caught up on orders because they moved their assembly back into the US. Sounds good to me and it will be worth the wait for a US made product. I just wish MF didn't tell me they had them when they didn't or I would have waited to sell my rig until they had them in stock.
My band decided to take some time off , but this delay in my rig has caused our break to be longer than planned. In the mean time we are all learning over a dozen new tunes on our own and will put them together as a band when we pratice next in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll have my "New" bass rig by then.
That's why I have been so quite lately. Waiting...Waiting...and more waiting...

They've put some work into it. Lots of staff, nice decor, big stage, big bar. The tables and chairs seemed a little on the ghetto side, but overall I'm pretty excited about it.

Country Storm heads to Country Corners in McFarland tonight. Should be a fun show, albeit sloppy as we expect to be completely bombed (occupational hazard) and we have our good friend Kenny Pool from Michigan's top country act Wildfire joining us tonight. Our rhythm player/singer's gal-pal is getting ready to drop a kid in the next few days so we have enlisted Kenny as our "just in case" plan.
If you are in the area, stop in, say hey and and I'll buy you a couple for stopping out!
More continued rumblings of a return of my Fox Valley rock band Uncle Whiskey Breath getting things back up and rolling. And I would love to see that happen! Been way to long since I've gotten to front a band in guitarist mode. As much as I love playing bass, I still love to just grab a mic and see exactly how many people I can offend in a three set night!
Drive safe tonight if you are gigging or venturing out to do some "clubbing". |

Uncle Whiskey Breath - did you ever have a drummer named Todd Beauchamp in the band?
