| | | | If I could meet any famous musician it would have to be Victor. Would love to get to one of his bass camps one day. Every one of the DVD's he has put out has a lesson at the end I find worth while. I have never seen that from any other bass player. |

Sure soul circus wasnt exactly brilliant but after playing and performing some of his stuff i have no doubt he is as good as anyone out there.
His solo piece The Vision is perhaps one of the most best and underrated solos out there. Also You cant hold no groove... man so groovy i played it solo and had people dancing, actually dancing...to solo bass!!!
IMO of course

| | | Jeeez...everybodies a critic. Truth is Victor, Marcus, Jaco, Bootsie, all those guys have there own style. I say thank God for all of them. Bass players like Victor bring the lime light to playing the bass. For the longest time bass players were just the guy in the background beating out the bottom notes, nobody paid much attention to them. But guys like Victor brought a whole new style on to the scene. Victor learned from listening to Stanley Clark, Jaco, Bootsie and today we learn and get inspired from listening to the new generation of players. I know Victor was a huge influence in the reason why I picked up the bass. I think it's wrong to sit and judge someone's playing style when I know most of us would give there left nut to be able to play like him. Just my opinion |

That in itself is quite the task. The problem is that alot of his stuff is so cheesy, alot of people can't take him seriously. Also, he uses more analogies than Wyton Marsalis, which gets aggrivating. Doesn't make him a worse player, just makes people not want to like him. |

I will admit he gets carried away sometimes with the speedy thumb, but I just heard "You Can't Hold No Groove" for the first time thanks to this thread and my admiration is higher than ever.

For example, my high school music teacher, the most right wing musically conservative person i have ever know, got me into victor and live at the quick is in her top ten her favorite albums, which is saying alot. |

When you can play like Wynton or Victor, you can say whatever you want. It's the playing that's really important, not the talking. |

So generic it hurts. And when I say it makes people not want to like him, the people I mean are apparently people who do't "understand it" |

When I was younger I was able to pretty much cop the double thumping thing, but it will take me a lifetime to be able to lay down a groove or burn through changes like him. If he never busted out the thumb again he'd still be one of the best bass players around. |
