Just saw him live with the Chick Corea Electric Band at Yoshi's tonight, and well, just wow. I had seen him on tv and you tube doing cool stuff with Bela Fleck, but this was on a higher plane, both inspiring and wickedly intimidating at the same time! I don't think I have ever seen more talented musicians all in the same place before, and obviously having fun.
I am going to bed now.

I love Vic and his family... they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. With that said, Chick Corea has written some of the best (to my ears) tunes occupying the real books (crystal silence and spain anyone?)

The only downside to Chick Corea is his whole Scientology thing.... I guess it is a religion of sorts so I shouldn't attack it... but man....

Victor seems like a very odd fit with the Elektric Band. He's more funk than anything else, where Chick's sound really demands a jazz player.

I think to see Victor as "more funk than anything else" is to underestimate Vic as a musician. His talent and musicianship is much broader than that.

Gotta agree with that. The man can do a lot more than funk, and easily on the same level too.

+1

Funk might be his first love but even a cursory listen to his solo albums indicates his love of jazz.

I have heard Vic walk/solo over changes. He does a lot more than just funk.

I took a dump and decided to build a shrine around it and sacrifice small children to it on wednesdays. But don't criticize me it's my religion now!!!

Que? Why should a dumb idea be protected just because someone decided to call it a religion?

ps I wish I saw this show

Honestly, I could go way deeper and describe why I am so opposed to Scientology, but this really isn't the place. I have been a member here (different name) for over 5 years, so I know how mods like to keep things toned down

also, to stay on topic... I also look at Vic as more of a funk player, but he can definitely play his ii V I's, and then some!

Oh, I thought someone was complaining about his habit of wearing spandex shorts without any underwear. He's a sick, sick man.

I've seen him more than a few times...He almost always wears something completely inappropriate. Be it on bass day, or some joint downtown, it's a running joke with my friends and I. Vic...comeon man...really...

Please, please, PLEASE don't tell me you are of any religious persuasion yourself!

Oh, and yeah, Vic's great.
