Would you be nervous if you were filling in on a gig for one of your bass heros?
edit: Just for shiggles......let's throw another wrench into the works....
you've got 5 days to learn 22 songs+work a full time job+no rehearsal....
I.E. (hypothetically speaking) filling in for someone like Chuck Rainey, Tommy Simms, Bob Babbit, Pino, Adam Nitti, Victor Wooten, or the likes of someone that you really admired and have a ton respect and admiration for.....

While I wasn't fillin-in for a bass hero of mine...although some of my heros have played with Mayburn, it was quite an experience.
I was nervous, but that ended as we got grooving. And I felt honored when Mayburn not only asked me to solo, but insisted that I do a couple more choruses.
Still one of my musical highlights.
And I have filled-in for the mighty Justin Rimbo (the seldome seen DocRimbo here on TB), always an honor.
As for fillin-in for the likes of Woot, Rocco, Lee, etc. Yep, that'd be nerve racking, mainly due to the other bassists watching me, wondering if I could live up to their hero(s). |

Seriously, Ifind playing any Joy Division/New Order tracks a pleasure, and to play them with the original band would be the perfect thing for me.
Another bassist I would love to play for is Chris Wolstenholme of Muse. I find his skill on bass impressive and as I normally like to play Muse tracks, I'd probably survive a Muse concert.

Even though I'm sure I would be crapping my pants trying to fill the shoes of Rocco or John Patitucci, mainly because I just can't do the same things they can, technically.

| | Guest Friend and Endorsee of Larry | | | | ya, I'd be nervous but at the same time, you've obviously got some skill as they called and figure you can do it so with that in mind I'd go into it with the head space of "look out Tommy, look out Pino, 'cause the Zach is back and ready to make some booty move!"
have fun!!
ps. i'd chart the songs out first (form ie. vs/ch/vs2/ch2/brdg .....) before even having my bass in my hands, just to really orient myself with the tunes and then pick-up your bass and shed like a mofo | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
