'Yes' with Chris Squire

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone seen the Yes concert that DTV is showing? The original lead vocalist, lead guitar player, and Chris Squire were all there. I guess Yes recently produced an album and played a few of their new songs in the beginning. Squire played his classic Rick on the old songs, but he played a different bass on the Yes new stuff. I never could identify what make it was. Anybody else??

I haven't seen it, but I know that post Ric, Squire had a custom made Mooridian (sp?). Don't know if that's the one in the video though. Was it green?

I saw Yes in the round back in the early 80s. Chris played the Rick throughout. The"Amazing Grace" bass solo was spectacular.

That concert and the album the new songs were from is from 2001.

The bass he was playing is a Lakland Bob Glaub ( P bass style ) seen in this video at 3:48http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLM-fwEFVcU&feature=fvw

IIRC,the Lakland is a Bob Glaub body with a Joe Osbourne neck. ( Jazz bass profile )

Thanks 5string! That's the one I saw! I just could never get a good shot of the headstock. Lakland! I should have guessed!

I had a "say it ain't so Joe" moment with Chris Squire. He was a big influence on me, and I was in college in the 80's during their terrible "90125" lineup. There was like only one riff on the album, the part on "It Can Happen." Saw 'em live in Atlanta that year (84? 85? 86?) and Chris was just dancing around stage clapping his hands and the "riff" for that song was just recorded or played as a sample.

90125 is the best selling cd in yes history. I went to 3 shows on that tour, boston, hartford CT. and providence RI. They were good shows and trevor is a fine guitar player.

I saw them about 2 months ago. He played his old school Ric and that unusual old MPC Electra Outlaw bass. (I have never seen another one) No sign of a Lakland. Definitely no sign of a Big Al...

I saw the Drama tour, with those Buggles dudes.
Not too bad, but not really YES.

He's about to choke on that Lakland in the picture.
Way too high for coolness factor 7.4.

Check out the yes dvd songs from tsongas. I was at that show. Talk about a smoking show. The back to back leads between howe, wakemen & squire in the song south side of the sky, simply astounding!

I saw it on Utube. With the new singer. But it's a far away shot--I think it's a big Al but I do remember the Electra from a distance could look like a Big Al-- So sorry if it's not but it looks like one---I think it's (vid) close to the "Onward" posts.

I think on 90125 and Big Generator Chris used a 5 String Tobias at least that is what I thought I read back then.

I remember in some guitar mag interview Chris says his low string on the 5-string is tuned to "A" not "B", as "A" is more usefull for rock 'n roll! :-)

PS -- Trevor Rabin IMHO is a "fine guitar player" in the sense that he has chops and would be great in a LA recording studio doing tracks for commercials etc. But not in "Yes".
