I have never gotten why folks overlap them style-wise; Styx was a rock band with lots of keys; Yes is a prog band with some guitar. Very different music - but folks do lump them into the same category.
Oh - and I've really enjoyed every Yes show I've seen, though I rarely listen to the music anymore.

| | | | yes is doing a lot of their latest album which is just being released tomorrow,so there may be an audience lack of familarity with their new stuff. (that's usually what i get excited to hear at a Yes show, though.) Yes once toured with Kansas, which i think was a better combination than Styx, and from the sound of it,Yes will be doing a shorter show to accomodate a 2 hour show from Styx. there will be one Styx-less show,in san diego near the end of the tour, which would be the one i would like to see.....if you haven't seen Yes with the new lead singer, you should check them out-he sounds great,as does the rest of the band. Jon is once again doing his own thing, which should prove to be interesting as well. |

Yes isn't dance music and they don't do a lot of jumping around the stage. Benoit David will move around and Chris Squire hams it up a bit, but Steve Howe locks himself in place and stares holes into his fretboard, while Alan White and Oliver Wakeman are kind of set in place at their instruments. But you go to a Yes concert to hear them play, not to watch them dance, and they're brilliant.

Actually, they're only playing the studio version of part one (We Can Fly, the same song that was made a single) of "We can fly from here"....
But they are doing Heart of the Sunrise, And You And I, Starship Trooper, Tempus Fugit, and Roundabout, so naturally I'm going to go see them, and it looks like it's going to be a great show anyway. Squire said that Yes was going to do a whole lot more of the new album on the next tour, including the whole "We can fly from here" suite, "Life on a film set", etc. But the band chose to do mostly old songs because of the combined touring with Styx (who's a nostalgia band in many ways, though still a killer band), the limited time slot due to the latter, etc.

| | | | hey there,opbassman- i think i saw that quote from Chris, and must have thought he was referring to the current summer tour, instead of later. I am not in a position to see them this summer anyway,so hopefully when they tour again, and play more of the new album,i will be able to check them out. i've not seen Geoff in concert, but i think he is brilliant on the albums,so it should be interesting to hear what he does with Wakeman's parts. |

For those of us who have seen those bands in their full original line-up and glory, it could be a bit of a bummer.
