Doesn't do it for me Jimmy. No apparent structure or form that I could discern even for jazz (maybe I'm not sophisticated enough). Oh I'm nearly 50.

I'm not sure the real one is all that much better! Certainly not the height of his career.

Unfortunately no, it's not obvious.
Many people are so not into fusion concepts that this could easily be passed as a real performance.
Not even taking into account that Jaco sometimes was randomly jumping from one thing to another like in the parody.

OK, here's something a little more straightforward then:

Awesome. I like all the "shreds" videos, but that one may be the best. I love the half-hearted applause from the "audience".

My screen went blank and I thought I'd walked into the bass section at guitar center.

Second posted Jaco video easier on the ears, a nice groove piece.

Paco de Lucia - Entre dos aquas, much better then the first.

The language of music speaks to us all differently. Thanks all for the vid's , went good with the morning coffee.

I have to agree. I though the actual piece was a self-indulgent yawn-fest.

I don't mean to start a flame war, but am I the only one that doesn't 'get' Jaco? I mean, I appreciate that he was a talented fellow, technically gifted and all that, but I bought a solo album of his believing all the hype, but was left stone cold. Bored me to tears.

I started to listening to Jaco this year (I'm 15) and I think he is/was awesome. Last Wednesday I played Portrait of Tracy at school and by the look of the people's faces they were pretty amazed to hear a bass doing a solo song.

Jaco was very good, but I never appreciated his style of music. I'll stick to listening to people I enjoy listening to.

While I don't really like Jaco's music I can appreciate the talent he had as a complete musician. He did alot to expand the way people look at bass guitar. I can say that about others too, not just Jaco.
