We need to all cut it out and accept that there are players out there that as bassists are going to play in ways that we don't like, that we think are mediocre, or even bad, and we need to learn to let them be.
I can't stand Fall Out Boy, and I don't dig on the players that do what I consider the bare minimum, but I'm not going to rag on the guy. He's doing what he thinks should be done for the songs he plays.
Your going to find a lot of bassists that actaully like Fall Out Boy and Pete Wentz, and players that, even if they don't walk around wearing the FOB buttons and patches, really like the feeling they get from laying the movement of a song on 8th note Roots, which is what Pete does. Most players call them lazy, they call more intricate players wankers, so on, so forth.
I say we leave the bashing behind. If you want to start a thread and allow TB members to have civil conversation on the topic, then great, do it. But IMHO, its all been said before on these forums.
A Mod is likely on their way to close this before it gets started.

This thread, the thread I had deleted because I used the word "gay" to describe the band even though they market themselves to gays...geez, just get over it. If something offends you, all you have to do it hit "reply" and state your piece. You don't need to have a thread closed every time something offends someone. You SHOULD be offended once in a while.

I just figured this was better than everyone hijacking everyone else's threads about how much they hate Pete Wentz, who really isn't a terrible bass player - except live, but all of Fall Out Boy is notoriously sloppy live, from what I've heard.

He says he's 'Working On It.'
I don't know man. It just kind of erks me that its all I find in the Bassists Forum. And I can't even claim that I've never done it. Of course I've bashed players and bands, but I'm just starting to get to a point where I just think we should let the bashing alone.
Maybe its just a subconcious fear of being bashed, I don't know...

I like a lot of old country music where root/fifth is the only thing they played. Can you like these styles while hating the bass parts? I'm not trying to be lofty and above it all, I'm trying to get a handle on approaches to listening/enjoying that may help me understand how some other players organize it in their heads. Please ignore if I'm taking things off track. |

If people had a reason for hating on Pete Wentz then we wouldn't need threads like this

I am reminded of The Fountainhead when I think of fellows like Peter Wentz. The fact is that this player is a mediocrity and that playing just the root is lazy playing most of the time. Fellows like him are the reason bass is considered an instrument for failed guitarists. If I recall correctly, he doesn't even play in the studio.
