When you know the seatbelt in the car feels about the same tension as your strings 'cos you play along with songs on the stereo by plucking the edge of the seatbelt.

I thought I was bad with the steering wheel thing but yours makes perfect sense.

You're a bass geek if you read and post on TalkBass. 90% of bass players I know have never even heard of TalkBass.

You know you're a bass geek when...

You design and build your own off-the-wall bass, and actually get paying gigs to pay for it.

I know I'm a bass geek: One of my current projects is to put new strings on my bass every couple of weeks and record a series of exercises to show off the sound. I then compare the recordings with previous recordings with other strings to hear the difference. I compile notes on the differences in search of the "perfect string".

You know you're a bass geek when something like this seems like a good use of your time.

I feel like one, sometimes. I found myself randomly telling someone about this bass player I like that has played on many of the old Motown records and that he used to use these really old, crusty, flatwound strings, and that he had some of the most melodic playing... and then I realized, "Crap, this person doesn't care about any of that." Lol.

You lay awake at night wondering how that jazz bass would sound with flatwounds, dead steels, or...

But I'm not very good at playing an unlined fretless. I guess I'll have to get out the Sharpie, so I can get my left hand parts down while I'm driving, too.

You know you are a bass geek when you need;

1: A Fodera, Ric and a Sadowski and 2 Alembics

2. 2 Ampeg 8X10 1000 watt amps and cabs

when you don't play outside of your house or even jam with anyone

Right? I've not once seen a video that gave me enough Chris Squire footage to satisfy me. Thinking about trying to take my own footage in their next tour where they'll perform Close To the Edge, The Yes Album, and Going For the One in their entirety...but the venue says no cameras...

This! I have been playing the bass line to songs for many years and I am still not sure what the lyrics are. I have looked at our singer's lyric sheets more than once and was surprised at what the lyrics were actually saying.
