I've already seen it. She can play! Watch the progression from her earliest videos after playing for a matter of weeks.

Very cool!

But be warned, it's only a matter of time before the "well, she didn't write it, and anyone can transcribe a bassline, so she's obviously a talentless hack" posts start rolling in...

As far as i can remember, that's where the last thread about her went.

She's the daughter of a girl that grew up next door to me (well actually behind... our back yards faced each other). Aubrey has got some talent for sure!

Here she is sitting in on one of her father's gigs (Berkley grad drummer)
Song for My Father - YouTube
(she gets a solo at 6:20)

[edit]I've been telling her mother to send her to talkbass for over a year... not sure if she ever stopped by or not[/edit]

It's remarkable how she's progressed in a year - just awesome stuff.

Way to go!

Pretty good. Way better than I was when I was 13.

I think it's kind of amusing that the bass practically looks bigger than she does.

While I don't disagree with the fact that natural talent exists to some extent (I believe it's mostly conditioning from an early age though), I'm sure most of her progress can be attributed to the fact that she's obsessed with her instrument and spends most of her time either playing or practicing.

She even covers "Peg" by Chuck Rainey. And yeah, she's light years better than I was as a 13 year old girl. Granted I'm a dude and didn't start playing til 15, but yeah. Better.

I think saying "it's natural talent" detracts from all the work that she has no doubt put into learning.

I love seeing young women showing such devotion to the bass. It gives me hope for the future.

You don't get to this point without having the natural aptitudes to build on.

In this case the required aptitudes are Rhythm, Pitch Discrimination, Tonal Memory and Finger Dexterity, and she has them all, and very high. Coming from a musical family she has a head start. THEN you add the determination to learn and practice, and you have a great player.

See Aptitude Testing at the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation for more about natural aptitudes and how to find out what yours are and how to use them.
