I've met close to 100 TalkBassers at this point and listened to a large amount of recordings posted by fellow TalkBassers- this forum usually tributes big-name bassists, so let's give some props to the joes around here for their stuff (pros don't count- otherwise everyone will be mentioning Manring, Gwizdala, etc. )

Here are some of mine- I'm sure I'll remember many more and post them later:
zac2944: met Zac twice now- super funky player with a fantastic feel
Don't Fret: way too good for his age- he had a handle on all sorts of chordal concepts and a range of styles back when I met him in 2005
Wilbyman: Wil's got some great jazz stuff going on- his standards and new stuff is very enjoyable
Matt Till: Matt's got really great song structures and layering. Very listenable experimental stuff throughout his 1,376 different projects he's had. Waiting for his "Matt: Till The Break Of Dawn" debut dancehouse album
Whafrodamus: another kid way too good for his age
Wrong Robot: was abducted by the real world a while back, but Kief's turned his killer chops into some really great songwriting skills
propea (aka Marco Rodi): has a great future in solo bass stuff- just watch this one for the evidence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAxfTg3h_mY
Bassius: some great compositions- my favorite tune of his "My Eyes" is off his site right now, but other good stuff is on his Myspace page
pointbass: a very cool guy and jazz player
corrosivemind19: has some really cool stuff going on with his band- can't wait to hear more stuff with better recording equipment
VintageBT6Lover: great big band funk player

In the "almost pro at this point" category , there's:
Jeff Schmidt: phenomenal solo bassist
Jean Baudin: another phenomenal solo bassist- ignore the Mario stuff you've already heard and listen to his other solo stuff on MySpace
Jay Terrien: his album "All The Dolls In The Same Place" is really one of the best "bassist" albums I've heard- great playing and really great electronica-esqe songs.
Chris Fitzgerald: Jazz master. Hell, the guy's listed on Jamie Aebersold's website even!

That's a start- I'll post a lot more later when they come to me.

wow thanks James! Likewise my brother!

I have to agree with John as well, because I have learnt so much just reading threads from some of TB's most experienced cats.

Jay Terrien, Bryan R. Tyler and Hadrien Feraud are the boys for me. Okay, so I guess Jay and Hadrien are pros, but they deserve a mention for here for being great guys as well as top class players!

Among non-pros, I really like Shelly's Myspace music, DWbass has some cool old school grooves on his website. KJung is a great player who is great being so modest that you forget he can really play! I always enjoy Lokire whenever he posts something. I think he is really great considering he is only 20 or so.

Thanks for the props Bryan, I appreciate it. BTW: I never really had a chance to say it, thanks for those chord fingering charts on your website... very useful info!

If I had to narrow my choices down to three, it would be Ben Strange for his amazing/twisted/dark prog metal.

Wrong Robot for his glitchy world musicy funk

and Jay Terydactyl for his blow up dolls/whateverthehell his amazing music is.

And of course, they are the TBers who post the least because they are too busy making music. I need to take a page, you know?

I've heard some of Chris's recordings and really like what I've heard! As you say, I think he would also be great to have as a teacher!

Paul Warburton has played with the Jazz "greats" and I have his album "Speak Low" which has soem fantastic Double Bass playing!

I also have heard a couple of albums where Ed Fuqua plays and really like them - maybe also - funniest TBer!!

For BG special mention goes to - Craig Garfinkel's Mystery Feet!

Paul is probably my favorite double bassist on Talkbass. I only know the tracks that have been offered for download over the years. I need to look into buying a copy... I never thought to see if he had a full length recording.

I will be honest in that I have yet to really listen to a lot of TB recordings, but I really dig Jauqo III-X's playing a lot, not to mention he's a really informative/nice guy. Alvaro Gomez is also up there for the same reason.

I'll be sure to keep my eyes and ears open for some more TB'er recordings.

Just to update as well, I forgot Woodchuck, again for the same reasons mentioned above. Plus El Pus is nasty.

+1 for Jauqo. Even though he steals all my posts

I really love how he uses the slapping, and playing with a pick. Genius. I tried it and failed miserably.
