any metal fan should know who this guy is, he plays a fretless 5 string most of the time used to be ESP but he changed to something else.
He uses 3 fingers with proper 3 finger technique and sounds great on all his recordings
or
Martin Mendez from Opeth in alot of songs he stay low in the mix but when he comes out its very cool stuff plays a Fender Marcus Miller sig bass and also with his little fingers

| | | | Steve Harris. 70s (I think) Precision Bass, custom tube amps designed after old Peaveys (I think, could be Hiwatt), finger player. Bass has been upgraded with Seymour Duncan pickup and BadAss bridge. Rotosound Flatwound signature strings. 110-55 (super heavy, yes). Also uses considerable amount of compression, tube compressor, undentified brand. Tone control on the bass is bypassed to get more high end. |

Mostly fingers, sometimes pick on Rotosound stringed Kramer-era Spector NS-2 basses through energy group cabs, or something undecided.. know he use Hartke Hy-Drives now, but back then it must have been something SVT like. |

If you get the chance to listen to the track "Shutdown",
About 6 min out the bass "takes over", and it sounds heavenly.
Really fat but defined sound. |

| | | | Rex from Pantera. Great tone and great lines that aren't formulaic or predictable. He's one of the best metal bassists out there when it comes to doing interesting things under a guitar lead.
I'm not sure about his rig. I know he plays with a pick and I think he plays SSD basses. |

P-bass through a tube head and a broken 4 x 12 IIRC
also remember you don't know how to take the pickup covers off, so play near the neck. |

He uses USA Spector basses, Various GK heads and Cabinets.
The heads I know he uses are the 1001RB, 2001RB, Fusion 550, and the MB-500
The cabs I know of are the NEO412, NEO410, and 115RBH
he usually uses the 2001 head with a 115RBH, and 410NEO as the two cabs for the head. He is the only guy I know who mixes those two series of cabs and uses them together, |

He plays finger through an SWR Mo Bass head with a matching SWR Megoliath cab. Great fretless tone and he does some really cool almost lead bass stuff. The chords he uses in The Literal Black Cloud = awesome.
