For the Darker side of things I really like Jonas Renske's tone on Bloodbath's Nightmare's Made Flesh. I am also a huge fan of Martin Mendez(sp?) and the tone's of other's who have worked with Opeth.. (nope not going to look those other guys up right now, but hard to find a bad bass tone on an Opeth album so far as I'm concerned) |

| | | Two of my favorites, with stems for audio aid and some more detail into their gear. The others I'd normally mention seem to have been covered in detail already.
John Myung: On the Backs of Angels bass track Currently uses a Bongo 6 HS, through various rackmount preamps*, along with an Eventide DSP-4000 Ultra-Harmonizer on the "Hyper Quad" setting for chorus. He plays with his fingers, near the neck, with heavy attack, as you can hear. He also does not use cabs; he runs the signal straight into the FOH mixer instead.
Cliff Burton: Ride the Lightning bass track For this recording (which for me is a better bass tone than on Puppets), he was using a modified Rickenbacker 4001, with both pickups replaced; the neck with a mudbucker and the bridge with a Jazz-style by DiMarzio. He also had a secret Seymour Duncan pickup under the bridge for extra treble. He played it through an Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss CS-2 or CS-1 Compressors, EHX BassBalls, an EHX Big Muff (mostly during solo parts), and used a Morley Power Wah Fuzz for the signature "screaming" wah.

My vote goes to older Eddie Jackson, and DD Verni. Check the tune in my sig and you'll know that's what my ear leans to! |

For this show it looks like he's playing a Gibson Thunderbird, going through an SVT and 810, though I have no idea what his pedalboard looks like. I've usually seen him use an older SVT and some Roller Sound cabs. |

The Live version of 'Colony' is great.
