There are a few known bassist/producers out there. My favourite ones are Don Was and Larry Klein.

Good call on Larry Klein. I'll toss out the obvious: Marcus Miller. Those Luther Vandross and David Sanborn albums are in the pantheon.

Felix Pappalardi was pretty good. Cream and Mountain are two examples.
